Attic and ventilation

We purchased a house and the insulation is rated r12, we'd like to bring that up r50 or whatever is code now. The ensuite vents into the attic as opposed to venting to the exterior- we'd like to fix that. Our home inspector told us that the vents that keep the attic from over heating is poorly vented so we're interested in correcting that.

There is a vertical beam that has split, possibly from dropping shingles too hard on the roof, we'd like an assessment for how serious that is and how to fix it.

How much do we need to budget for this work?
