Hi, we are installing baseboards (1x4 inch MDF) in our house. We noticed 1 wall is not flat. How do we install the baseboards to flush onto the wall? Please see photos for reference.
Thank you!
I simply physically force the baseboard against the wall and secure it with about 16-18 gauge x 2 long Brad mail. You need to be sure you hit the framing behind the drywall. Otherwise the drywall will not hold.
As well you will get better fitting corners if you simply butt fit the corners.
Light caulk tops of base and corners. You then have a professional looking job.
If you have a stringer in the wall near center anywhere where there is a gap. Be sure to nail it in firmly.
Then you will have to dap a few coats in that area. You will be running a bead of dap where ever the baseboard meets the wall anyway.
There are alot of ways to fix that. 1st since it is a corner and on a little end jog why not just re-plaster the wall in section or all the way up to make it straight, any time you install base on a crooked wall you will see the base being "crooked" after..depends how fussy you are? As it is pretty thick base on a end you will not be able to force it flat like one suggestion, that only works if there is flex, another way is too grind back some drywall in part of a section that is tight but again you cannot do in that spot, "dap filler" will work but it is a large gap and will be noticeable (again how fussy are you?). If my contract I would bring to homeowner to fill out wall and extra cost as applied. PS: that mitre is really bad, I hope this is a homeowner project otherwise you got a really bad finisher.
