To properly hang and finish to perfection is between $2-$2.50 per sq ft including material

Both of the above responses are correct, in the right context. To "just install" the drywall sheets the cost would be 25-30 cents/ sq ft of drywall. (this is the total sq footage of the new sheets) so a 10ft sheet = 4 x 10 is 40 sq ft. Yes you have to pay for the waste (scrap cut off).
The other price quoted was $2-2.50 sq ft (again this is total new board footage) is for supplying material, installation, taping, textured ceilings and sanding. In most cases it will also include disposal of all waste
