Saying that you're using your everyday 30 year shingle and in Canada. You have to factor in slope using an area/rake and hip/valley conversion formula. Average walkable roof is a 6/12 pitch. You can find pitch easily with a pitch finder. For your roof you would calculate (we're saying 6/12) For area/rake:

24x38=912sq/ft

x

1.118(pitch)=1,019.61

10.5 square

Veranda 6x18=108

x

1.118= 120.74

1.5 square

Total 12 square

Small house built a bigger treehouse last week.

Area rake is for gable to gable roofs you then use hip valley conversion for roofs with hips and valleys using the total from the area rake formula.

I attached a shot of the conversion tables.
