Why does the floor drain in my basement gurgle everytime sewage is discharged from the building? It hasn't always been that way.
We see this issue quite a bit during this time of year, towards end of winter and early spring when the ground starts to thaw, along with rain fall.
For septic systems this can mean the drain field is saturated and the effluent leading from the septic tank is slower than normal due to the drain field not accepting the water efficiently. This can cause slow flushing toilets, gurgling and sometimes backups.
If you are on sewer this can be due to a comprimised pipe, ground water can enter the broken pipe leading from the home to the sewer. This can cause slower draining from the home and at times gurgling sounds as water flow meets water intrusion.
It can also mean blockage in venting, this can also happen if there is snow cover overtop of the homes plumbing vent.
Having a pipe camera will certainly help determine the actual cause, and it can certainly be any of the above issues.
Hope this helps.
