Hickory or cherry flooring?

My hardwood floors are being sanded and repaired. Three other people have told me I have cherry floors. The company we hired insists it is a hickory floor and has filled the holes with hickory. It doesn't look right to me. But the previous owner, a contractor and another company quoted cherry.

Is this hickory or cherry? Can someone advise?

I would say 3-1 is a very good possibility that it's cherry. However did they see it before it was sanded? Sometimes you can varnish wood to what ever look you want. I'd try to take a piece to a lumber store to make 100%;certain. ... but 3-1 kinda sounds like cherry to me.

According to my sources it looks like hickory. If it was a cherry it would be more of a red.

It's Cherry. Hickory has alot more grain in it.

It looks like Cherry. Sanded cherry is generally more lighter orange than finished older cherry and sun affects cherry a lot darkening it. If there is extra boards stick them in the sun for a week and watch if they go darker.

The other possibility looking at the pictures is a stained cheaper wood like the first guy mentioned but if its completely sanded down most but not all of the colour would go with it and reveal areas that got sanded more as a golden colour.
