We have a 40x60 pole barn with some rotten posts. Should we dig down and sister them up on both sides and encapsulate with sealer and concrete in a sono tube or just fill in the holes?

Or dig down cutting out the rot, pour a footing with a sono tube and add a bracket?

I have used the second option before with no problems.

Since your going to have to dig no matter what. I would cut the rotten part of the post and dig out the bottom portion. Install sono tubes with concrete and a post bracket on top. Install a section of new post to meet the existing one and sister some boards to the sides to lock them together. If you have the concrete at least 6" above the ground level then you'll never have an issue again. BTW support the roof before cutting the posts.
