Pulled the carpets upstairs and noticed the difference between the subfloor and the height of the nosing is about 9mm. I wanted to put in hardwood, but even 3/8" is still too high and not flush.
I suppose you could sand and bevel the edge of the hardwood to make it flush with the nosing, but I've been told the proper way of doing this is to remove and raise the nosing to match the desired height of the flooring.
Can anyone let me know what's involved with this and how much it would cost?
Thinking it might make more sense to just put LVT since it's thinner or just put new carpet.
The correct way to achieve this is to undo the hand rail at the wall and the post that attach to the stair case, then you must find and remove the screws that are attached to the floor, once this is done slowly raise the railing a 1/4 or 3/8 and do the reverse, the space that is now exposed as you can now see when walking up the staircase gets filled with small moulin such as door stop.
Cheers Mark....
Yes! The nosing has to be removed and replaced back and to be flashed with the hardwood however the complete railing and spindles has to be removed and replaced as well and this actually a lot of work will be involved. Approx cost is $1500
