Hi All,
I just had new windows installed. They removed the old retrofit ones, and took the opening right back to the framing - the new vinyl windows were made to size, and installed without a nail flange, so they did not have to do anything to the siding or trim outside, in order to install the new windows.
My question: is there anything that can be done to hide the nasty appearance of the j-chan you see in the picture? I was curious if pvc 1x4 trim board can be attached over top of this, and have the back face of the trim rabbeted on window side to allow for the extrusion of the j-chan (since it sits higher over the siding). And if this seems viable, what would be the best way to attached this trim? I had considered nailing, but I understand that nailing through the siding would probably not be a great idea.
I have seen a product on the interwebs, made by CertainTeed. It's a 3 1/2" snap-on lineal, that secures to the J using a clip edge, which seems to lock it into place. However, I don't seem to find anyone that carries this in Canada. Has anyone heard of, or used, this product?
I appreciate any suggestions to hiding the evil J, short of re-siding the entire house >.<
Thanks!
Jeff
