What should it cost In British Columbia 2022 to remove ceramic floor tiles from plywood subfloor. Disposal costs included or separate aswell ?
Hey Ryan,
I'm not out in B.C. but I will say that you'll probably have a hard time getting an answer to that (unless you already have). Pricing is all over the place with a lot of contractors - and typically those prices are high.
It would depend on how many sqft needed to be removed and how well the tiles are adhered to the subfloor, but it's not a difficult task. You could probably hire a handyman for $35-$50/hr to remove something like that and save yourself the cost of bringing in a bigger contractor.
Again, I'm not out in B.C. so I'm not sure of rates, but that would give you a scope anyways
It can be a ton of work:
* tile is always on a plywood underlay 3/8"-1/2" unless on concrete or done by an amateur
-If not on concrete, we usually cut it in 4x4 ft sections with a special blade and vacuum attached right through the tile & underlayment, then pry out and dispose in disposal bins. If its on top of regular wood subfloor then cost will be about $1000 per 100 sqft disposed all inclusive. If on concrete we have to break it off and grind the mortar off, pretty much same cost. If its a Condo or similar then it may have "gypcrete" underneath & this will also need to be repaired before you decide on type of new floor...that is extra and can run $500-$800/100 sqft. After the surfaces are all removed and patched you can put carpet on any surface now, but for hard flooring or vinyl products you need to put new "plywood underlayment down" Only 3/4" hardwood can be applied directly to a wood subfloor. Gyprete will depend on what you are putting down
