Approx 600sq-ft; comprised of a main room with a fireplace, a laundry room, three piece bathroom, and bedroom with storage room/large closet attached. House is 35yrs old with electric heat.
Was originally finished but water damage was found. Water drainage issue corrected but basement is now completely ripped up.
Would like it finished (incl the bathroom replaced - some fixtures saved). Will need to be reframed, drywalled, painted, and laminate flooring preferably installed throughout. Ceiling will also need to be redone. Existing lighting may be able to be reused but would discuss possibility of updating the lighting from current flouresant tube lighting.
Would like project completed as soon as possible.
We are looking to change the layout in our basement. The project would include: removing walls to create a move open concept in the main living area and relocating walls to push back and make more space. Plumbing and electrical would need to be moved as well. We are looking to increase the open area in our basement, but also change the bathroom layout (some new fixtures in the bathroom) and move the laundry from the currently location (in the bathroom) to the other side of the wall creating a separate laundry room. We would be open to re-doing the floors throughout the basement with a different type of laminate and possibly tile in the bathroom and laundry room. Detailed quotes would be appreciated, but a look at the space is essential I am sure. I welcome contractors to visit to create a true quote (free quotes are appreciated). Thank you!
I have an unfinished basement I am looking to have unfinished.
It currently has 2 rooms 'built'. One I would like turned into an office, the other is currently the laundry room which I would like to add a stand-up shower & a toilet in it. The remainder of the space I would like finished in a 'normal' manner. I am not looking to have top-quality materials, but I am also not looking to cheap out and having to replace/fix things in the future.
It is approximately 900sq ft total.
I know this is vague so please feel free to contact me.

Insulate a small, unfinished basement (27', 1 3/4" wide x 35' long) with a basic wood sub-floor and a studded wall with proper vapour barrier and fiberglass insulation in order to make the house more energy efficient. The age of house is between 50-55 years old.
Currently, the basement is unfinished with exposed concrete for the floor and walls. There is a small drainage trench (about 2 inches deep and 4 inches across) running along the base of the wall. The basement is primarily used for storage. Permanent fixtures include an oil fired furnace, oil tank, hot water heater, washer and dryer.
In the process of purchasing our first home and trying to determine how much work to expect before going forward.
The home we are looking at purchasing is about 60 years old. We're looking to turn a unfinished basement into a multi-purpose rec room/laundry room/workshop space. Most specifically we're looking for the basic finishings, flooring, walls and drywalling, trim and paint with the intention of personalizing ourselves.
We're also looking to put in a 3 pc bathroom on the 2nd floor, directly above the main bath, using space from the current bedroom closets. We're looking to do just a shower stall with a 1 sink vanity and low-flush toilet, nothing super elaborate. To complete the project we would need to replace the closet/storage in the current bedrooms.
Our basement is finished but very dated. There is a sag in one area of the floor (approximately 6'x6') which will need replacing.
There is carpet everywhere but we would want it removed and laminate flooring laid instead.
Most of the walls are covering in painted, wood panelling, we want that to be removed and replaced with painted gyproc.
The stairs are a typical split level style but have a low metal banister and rail. We would like the carpet removed from the stairs and the banister and rail replaced with wood to the current code specifications.
Good day, To whom it may concern
I'm looking for an estimate to get my basement apartment renovated, I'm the owner of the property. Ideally my budget is 20k, but wiling to go as high as 25k, with reasonable variances. My ideal timeline is ASAP, however I do understand NS is hurting for trades people and the demand for work is high, that's why I'm willing to accept the timeline to start the work could be 2-3 months from now.
I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Kind regards,
Raj
I have a room (approx. 10ft by 11ft) in my basement that I'd like to turn into a finished bedroom for my daughter. It currently has a door leading to the outside which would need to be taken out and filled in. It also has one wall that would need to be brought fully across (right now the wall ends about 4 feet from the adjoining wall) and have a door inserted. I would like to have is carpeted too, right now it has a vinyl floor. I have an old house in Dartmouth (100 yrs old), but this part of the house is bright and airy and just needs to be finished. Thanks!
Looking for a quote on renovating my home for the following:
The House is 20’ wide x 30’ long with the long side facing the Halifax Harbour. It has 2 levels with a partially finished basement; a single dwelling, is 70 plus years old.

- Demolish partially finished basement and completely re-do it. Full bathroom with a soaker tub, large shower stall, 2 vanities, toilet closet; 2 small bedrooms, small office with storage using wall space; storage room; common area; windows put in foundation walls for natural light.
- Build Upper deck off the top level to enjoy the spectacular view of the Halifax Harbour and Skyline, which is spectacular.
- Redo and Rebuild the lower deck on the main level from 30’ x 10’ to 24’ x 12’.and install new outdoor stairs from the main deck down to the backyard.
- Including footings, forms, posts and beams for the decks, any necessary permits, and a very simple drawing of the proposed changes.
