We need to have soil and limestone screenings removed to lower the material around the house down to below the first layer of bricks on an early eighties house. We want to construct a deck which will be quite close to the ground along most of the back of the house with potentially a pergola over part of the deck. Estimating the length of the deck at 28 feet along the house. One part of the deck at about 8 feet deep and 12 feet wide will need to have about 1 foot of dirt and limestone screenings removed to get the top of the deck to the door threshold. The other part of the deck can be a step up at 16x16 feet but some regrading is needed away from the house to reduce soil in contact with lower coarses of e bricks. Pressure treated wood only. Proper concrete footings below the frost line. Full step along two sides of he 16x16 foot. No railings. Some large rocks will need to be moved and relocated on property.
Hi There,
Just want to know what exactly would be involved with re-grading the front of our house. The lawn is shared with the neighbour and our property over the last few years has been gradually sloping towards our garage. Drainage is not good. There are now noticeable gaps from where the step from the house meets the walkway.
We thought we'd move the pathway over a bit so it's not so close the the garage wall.
Is a permit needed b/c the step from the house may be affected? I'm willing to do any labour, reuse the walkway stones or purchase new ones. I'm also looking for the most cost effective way to get this issue fixed but quality is very important too.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi there...my name is Kathleen and yes this will be a bit of a smelly job...not too bad, I hope.
Old location: 8'L x 6 1/2'W
- old (and yes, smelly soil) dug up (so I can take to the dump)
- area prepared for patio stones (from new location)
- soil from new location placed in old location
New Location (other side of yard): same dimensions
- patio stones lifted
- soil dug up (to be used for old location)
- piece of wood installed as "pee post"
I have the materials for the new Potty Pad. I am missing a bit of material for the old spot (for under the patio stones). I am the home owner. There will be heavy lifting. There is 12 patio stones that need to be moved and my back just won't let me do that. I can add the materials for the Potty Pad...I just cannot do the lifting and a lot of shoveling.
Our home is approximately 30 years old. There is a large retaining wall (approx 4'x35') that is presently constructed in wood and needs to be removed and replaced. We are seeking a cost effective yet attractive solution to wood. We would like this work completed before the Fall of 2009. I am interested in obtaining quotes from contractors interested in completing this work.Thank you.

On my side of the space (4' x 40') between my driveway and my neighbour's, i would like to:
a. plant qty 3~4 * ~30 cm Dwarf Alberta Spruce AND and qty 3~4 * ~30 cm hetz-midget (I need help from experts in deciding what quantity will be good for my space)
b. Remove ~ 2" of existing soil, install landscape fabric.
c. fill up the space ( ~ 4’ x 40’) with 1” ~ 3 “ with river rocks (option: 1” ~ 2" of White Marble/Dolomite)
d. whatever else is needed
I'm looking at getting some work done to our back yard.
Need: Digging and leveling to the whole backyard (25x25).
Lay interlock pad for seating area and lay interlock pad for barbeque area with Natural stone steps to go into house...this may be less than 130 sqft of interlock.
Please advise when you can start on the project. We are on a tight and very small budget of $2,500.
I need to put in new sod front and back of a small town house interlocking a portion of the back yard.
On the inside I want to mount a 42" TV on the wall moving the cable and the power outlet to the same level as the mounted TV hiding all cables/wires' creating a housing for cable box DVD player etc. Under the mounted TV.
I'm writing in behalf of my son who owns and lives in a house in Brampton. Here's his problem: He is looking for a way to block out the eyesore of the property behind him. He has a fence separating the two properties but it's not high enough and municipal bylaws limit fence heights to 6'6". He has reported this eyesore issue to the city but so far to no avail. He is currently thinking of planting a row of emerald cedars inside the current fence line but could benefit from some expert advice as well as the service of a landscape company to do the work. Ideally he is looking for a company who has done similar work (or could recommend a company), and who is familiar with local bylaws pertaining to the use of trees as a fence line. He would also like to know whether there are grown cedars tall enough to provide an immediate solution. If not. how long a wait can he expect for the trees to reach a suitable height?
He needs a solution that would be robust over time and in all weather conditions. He is also considering outdoor privacy screens but they would likely not be robust enough.
One of his primary concerns is protecting the value of his property from the eyesore of his neighbours yard.
I look forward to your timely response.
Very small backyard landscaping and masonry job needed.
Our backyard is very small, we would like to do the following:
Lay interlock pad for seating area and lay interlock pad for barbeque area with Natural stone steps to go into house...this may be less than 130 sqft of interlock.
Please see the attached pictures which includes pictures of the current state of the backyard and a plan of what we would like (exclude the little garden flowers) as well as some stone work we like.
I am re-doing my walkway, front steps and patio. I would like stones or designed concrete. standard walkway from curb to steps. patio is about 6 by 16 ft. I am the property owner. a tenant is living there. timeline is about June/July. My budget is $5000 can go above if necessary but not too much.
I am looking for a couple of things. Mostly, i would lik to have a waterfall installed in my backyard - i am not looking for something extravagent or with a big cost - i want something that I can enjoy and that is pretty simple (just the sound of water over rocks/
Secondly, I would like to extend my existing deck.
Keep in mind, that cost is a big issue (especially these days.)
Thank you
i need to do the whole backyard. redo 2 sides of the fences (remove existing fences and replace with new ones about 5 feet further.
pavement for the whole backyard. about 20 x 30 feet (townhouse)
second story deck about 10 feet by 15 feet with glass railing in front facing side.
under deck, i would like an above ground swimspa area. so no columns in the middle of deck. i would like it to be enclosed, sort of like a sunroom. i want front facing side opening doors and other sides closed off. also need to add a small shower area, so might need to do plumbing for drainage.
My yard has an overgrown hedge and bushes. I wish to remove these and replace them with a chain link fence and low maintenance material. I also need to replace a concrete piece of walkway that was removed due to a leak in the basement. My driveway needs to be graded but not paved at this time. My property was once used for underground utilities but no longer. My budget is between $2000 and $2500.
