Hired alltrade to paint our kitchen during our kitchen rebuild with a different trusted pro contractor. They slopped paint all over the place and painted finished undermount cabinet moulding and crown moulding. Refused to pay to repair the damage. Still unresolved. No answer from Emmanuel or Chris. Do not trust alltrade. Alltrade couldn’t pay ME enough to work on my property. They completely ruined a 35k kitchen upgrade, no repair can undue the damage done. Can’t believe they would paint finished to match undermount and crown moulding etc... would rate 0 not 1 star but it’s not an option. Home owners beware.
I met Chris and his father from Altrade when we asked them for a quotation. Depending on my first impression and the comments I read about Altrade, I agreed to work with Altrade without asking for alternative quote from any other service providers.
During the project, Chris and his father was quite helpful to find solution any prompt issues and did a very good job within a reasonable budget.
I am happy to work with them. Although it was not good time to paint the porch because of weather and postponed this part to spring, I paid in full because I trust Chris and I believe that he will come back and paint the porch as he promised.
I liked the team as well.
Update:
Referring to my review which I wrote in October 2017, I needed to add a brief update. Altrade made basement renovation and constructed a porch in late summer 2017. Job was completed except painting of the porch.
As I already wrote in my previous review, Chris told me that it would be better to postpone the painting of the porch to 2018 spring because of the coming winter. We agreed and I paid the full amount. Since July 2018, I was messaging about the painting the porch. No progress. In October 2018, Chris finally agreed to refund.
Unfortunately, neither the missing part of the job (painting the porch) has been completed nor I received the corresponding refund. This is another experience for me about how not to work with contractors.
Please be careful not to pay the full amount before work is fully completed.
I am quite sorry that I needed to add this unfortunate update.
I trusted the reviews I read on here and it paid off. This company just finished my reno work today and these guys were great, competitive pricing, very friendly and super willing to work with you to adjust to any changes. If I need any more painting and reno work done in the near future, Altrade will be my first and probably only phone call.
Altrade Painting did a terrific job from start to finish! They kept their word on the details of the job including prep work ie covering all floors and furniture. The painters were skillful, hardworking, fast and very particular about their work! They cleaned up when they were finished and we're pleasant to deal with.
We would be pleased to recommend them to family and friends.
This company is unprofessional and incompetent. A project that should of took 3 weeks tops, took them two months to “finish”. Chris LIED to us before signing the contract and advised us that he had a plumbers licence and when we requested a copy of the licence before signing the contract, he advised us he didn’t have access to a copy at that time but would provide it to us at a later date (we have his lie in writing). We took his word, signed the contract and asked again before plumbing work commenced. He then told us he “thought he told us he has a guy that does plumbing work but doesn’t have a licence”. We are glad we asked for proof again otherwise they would of did the work without the licence! We reported Altrade to BBB for this. The workers were not courteous and would leave the door open as they smoked (caught this on camera & asked them to stop), did not use a drop sheet in the hallway upstairs for the first half of the project, mucking up the upstairs floors daily and leaving bits of fiber glass, saw dust etc… all over the place. Had to ask them not walk in the living room carpet with boots on (no reason they should be in there anyway!) Job was sloppy and I can confidentially say Chris and his team are NOT experienced for larger projects. We had him fix framing that was crooked (furnace room wall), they messed up on the bathroom measurements and made it too small and did not fit our 3 fixtures, only 2. After expressing our concern about the bathroom door swinging inward, Chris assured us it would work and we wouldn’t have a problem. The door ended up being non-functional because it would only open about a foot before hitting the toilet and it can't swing out. He clearly doesn’t know how to measure or how to set up a bathroom. Now we have to hire someone else and spend hundreds of dollars to fix THEIR mistake. They damaged the wiring for our doorbell. We notified Chris immediately and he came by to inspect and noticed the workers did not secure the receptacle to the wall that the wiring was attached to. He assured us they would fix it since they broke it. However after many reminders, they put up the drywall without fixing it and assumed putting in a battery operated wireless doorbell would be a good enough fix. This was very upsetting because he had no intention on fixing it and got agitated when we asked to have it properly fixed. In the contract, it clearly states that full payment is due immediately upon completion. We received a message from Chris’s father Emmanuel stating the job was finished. We noticed numerous things were not completed - missing trim around doors and windows, walls not wiped down after sanding, nails sticking out of door frame, 4 cut out holes in the closet. He demanded they be paid. They didn't show up the next day for work but showed up unannounced at dinner time asking for the cheque. We were nice enough to provide this company with approx. 40% deposit and paid the remaining (less $800) before the job was even finished. When Emmanuel came to "collect" the cheque, he would not answer my questions and was quite hostile at my front door. He was extremely rude and I had to ask him repeatedly to calm down (my 20 month old daughter was right there). We were not offered any sort of compensation for the bathroom error and we are now left with a huge problem, a headache and empty wallets. The project was not even completely finished. The contract stated it would be "paint ready". They didn't wipe down the ceiling (covered in drywall dust) and the walls looked like they were maybe brushed with a broom. It took an entire weekend to clear out the drywall dust so we could start painting. There were about a dozen imperfections in the wall that needed to be patched up & rear wall had a 5x7 ft area that was not properly sanded. Unless you want to be ripped off and waste thousands of dollars, I would highly advise you stay AWAY from this company.
Hello Amanda,
I am sorry you feel like you were not treated properly and that your experience with our company was not satisfactory for you. I did try to make an effort with every issue you had but unfortunately as I see I was unable to satisfy you. We did finish the job as stated in the contract. I advised at the time that I had a plumber with a liscence but did not have access to the liscence at the time and then my plumber was unavailable for personal reasons so that is why you hired your own plumber afterwards. Your husband had told my father to come and pick up the final payment on the day in question so we were not there in announced. We have many happy customers with all size projects but unfortunately we were unable to satisfy your needs and for that I apologize.
We were so pleased after our first experience with Altrade that we called Chris again for a second project in our home. This time, we had new plank flooring and trim installed throughout every room on the main floor. Following some drywall repair, all of the rooms on the main floor were painted right up the staircase (open concept) including the celings, walls, doors and trim in the hallway on the second floor as well. Chris listened to my concerns, answered my questions and was easy to work with. The entire Altrade crew was courteous, helpful and paid attention to detail and I love the results! I would not hesitate to recommend Altrade to my family and friends and I am already planning my next project with them.
Altrade Painting and Renovating did a very good job renovating my basement at my house. Chris was very easy to deal with from start to finish. The whole Altrade team were professional and courteous and the quality of the work was very good. There were always clear lines of communication throughout the project. I would recommend Altrade and would hire them again.
They did a great job and paid attention to detail. The project was finished in good time and they provided excellent communication throughout the process. The painters were very courteous and friendly. I would definitely use them again!
