I hired EDG Contracting to work on my bathroom and basement and I was extremely satisfied with is services. Elie was extremely helpful/knowledgeable on working out all the details of the project. His advice got me in the right direction to choose layout and finishing touches for the bathrooms/basement. He was efficient; and professional. Thanks to Elie, I now have a beautiful bathroom and a basement that I enjoy everyday. Thank you
EDG Contracting was contracted to pour a patio slab in the front of my house June 6, 2011. The concrete slab was poured but when the slab was finished there were many sharp stones on the surface. Elie, the owner, was contacted and he said that he would grind it down and would ensure that the patio was to our satisfaction. In the interim, we decided that we did not like the finished look of the concrete and asked Elie's advice on what to put down on the concrete to make it complement our patterned concrete walkway better. He suggested slate or porcelain. So, we opted to go with slate and I told him not to bother wasting the manpower to grind down the concrete slab if, in fact, we were laying down slate. He thanked me and offered to buy the slate for me at his cost from Olympia Tile. When he actually came out and looked at the concrete slab on Friday, June 17, 2011, he himself was appalled at how bad the slab looked. He initially said he would only charge me $300.00 for labour but then waved his labour cost as he said he could not charge me based on how bad the slab looked. He showed me three different samples of slate that he said could be used for outdoors and I chose one. Elie showed up on Saturday and started to lay down the slate. He came back to finish the job on Monday, June 20, 2011 and it was while doing this job that I asked him again about the price of the slate and its use for outdoors. I had been in touch with Olympia Tile on the Sunday because I started having suspicions about the price (as another tile setter told me that I was paying too much money for the slate). Olympia Tile stated that the slate was $7.13 a square foot and he told me it was $7.98. They also said that they do not sell any slate that is suitable for outdoor use. When I quesioned Elie about this he was infuriated stating that he was not ripping me off and that Olympia Tile didn't know what they were talking about. So, I asked to have a copy of the invoice so that I could see what I was paying for. Elie showed up at my house on Tuesday, June 21, 2011 with his girlfriend. He handed me an Olympia Tile invoice in the amount of $1,687.40 which is what he initially told me the price was. As he had become so hostile on the Monday and had sent me nasty emails on the Tuesday morning before showing up to my house, I paid the balance owing. After he left I noticed that the font on the right of the invoice did not match the font on the left. I called Olympia Tile who asked me for the invoice number. When I gave them the invoice number they kept telling me two numbers were missing. Elie had purposely blocked out the numbers so I couldn't track the invoice. They found the invoice through his telephone number and confirmed that he paid $4.48 per square foot for the tile. It was confirmed that he falsified the invoice that he gave me. The invoice also clearly states, "Please note customer was informed that the slate is not recommended for exterior use." Elie has been contacted many times but he insists I am trying to rip him off. He has installed slate that is not for exterior use and he falsified an invoice and overcharged me. He lied about the whole project. In addition, when he poured the concrete he did not protect my vinyl siding with a tarp and now all the vinyl siding has to be replaced and the approximate cost thus far is $2,000.00. In addition, there is dried concrete all over my driveway and patterned concrete walkway. Elie has been contacted numerous times but he refuses to do anything about it and, in his last email to me, states that I owe him $2,500.00. He tells me that I tried to get something for free.
All customers should be very cautious with EDG Contracting and Mr. Elie Doummar. He is a sweet-talker, so be very, very careful. He has lied to me and will not own up to what he has done. He does not guarantee his work. His girlfriend is also part of his little schemes, so don't be fooled by her either.
In response to Angela Baird from Palgrave, Work done at your house is of high quality standard in labor and material. You contacted me to build a concrete pad at the front of your house, I met you to look at the work. You wanted a concrete pad build at the front of your house next to your existing walkway.I identified to you a couple of issues, I brought to your attention you already had a orange/pink pattern concrete walkway at the front of your house and that the new grey concrete that you wanted would clash in colour and texture. I didn't recommend doing the pad just as unfinished concrete because of the difference in finish, but you insisted on having it done. I referred you to a concrete tech for the pad that specializes in pattern concrete to make sure you understood the outcome of the work. He advise me that you didn't wanted pattern concrete because of high cost and you didn't want to pay for premium concrete. The concrete that he quoted you was not going to be a smooth finish like your existing pattern concrete walkway. He re-inforced once again to you that the colour and finish would be very different then the existing walkway you confirm this is what you wanted and understood the outcome. You mention to us the reason wanted this pad was to prevent weeds and grass from growing at the front of the house, the finish was not an issue. You both agreed on the price and work to be done and he proceeded with the work. Once the work was completed you called me and said you weren't satisfied with the work and you were not able to reach the concrete tech. I came by to see the end result of the work and to talk with you. You mention couple of issues, the grey colour of the new concrete pad was not complementing your existing pattern concrete the difference in colour could be seen from the street and your husband and you didn't like that. Also the finish was not the same smooth finish as your walkway. All these things where mention and discuss with you prior to doing the work. I know that sometimes it is difficult for customers to understand when contractors suggest product that are more expensive but this is for a better end result. From the start I didn't recommend doing a plain concrete pad but you insisted on having it done that way, now you want me to fix it. I suggested tiling the concrete pad with porcelain in similar tone as the walkway, you ask about slate because you liked the look/colour of natural stone. I told you can use a good quality slate outdoor but it needs to be sealed regularly. I brought you 4-5 sample of slate priced $4.50-$9.85 sqft You chose a smooth finish slate at $7.98,10% discount for contractor $7.18 sqft. You agreed on the cost of slate and labor. I installed the slate for you, the result was beautiful, the work was completed and you were very satisfied. To my surprise I got a phone call from you saying that I over charged you. You told me that you talk to a friend and she said you overpaid for the slate. I informed you that the quality of slate that you chose was not the regular slate that you can purchase at home depot for $3.00 sqft. You then turn around called my supplier pretending to be me and inquired about the price of slate. You were told the price that I had quoted you but for some reason you are under the impression that I paid less for the slate. You mention also that my supplier told you that the slate shouldn't be use outdoor. For many reason supplier will cover themselves with not recommending installing slates outdoor because of the maintenance issue. Slate is a natural stone and it need to be sealed regularly to protect it from the environment. Work I did for you was impeccable and you agreed. The only issue you have is with the cost and you didn't even pay for my labor. Getting things done for free on the expense of hard working people is nothing to be proud of. EDG Contracting.
