Very upset, disappointed and left with a very poor job. Will not recommend.
I can relate to -Cindy from Burlington's review.
I contacted Flexstone through their website. Received and email from Ken Magoski (Pres/Gen Mgr.) copying Walter Deveau (Reg. Dist. Mgr.) I was then contacted by Garth Yeo (Area Certified Flexstone Installer with an email garth@flexstoneontario.com) who gave me a quote to remove/grind the old top coating and resurface with Flexstone on my raised concrete patio. When the job was done in the fall, I paid in full. The following spring I notice many issues and contacted Garth Yeo, there were large air bubbles, a third of the deck had gouges that weren't filled and two thirds the old top layer wasn't removed, still showing to old pattern marks. Along with that, there are many sections that are lifting and steps that are pealing as well, they didn't put non-slip and the patio, it's a slippery skating ring when wet and cold. I have been trying for the past year and a half to get these issues fixed. Garth Yeo is blaming the substrate (which he was paid extra to remove). Garth Yeo is now ghosting me. Phone conversation with Walter has been no help. First, Walter praised Garth and told me that he uses Garth to train other installers and commented that the Flexstone finish would be almost impossible to remove to re-do to fix these issues. In another conversation most recently, Walter told me that Garth Yeo is not an employee and this has nothing to do with Flexstone, that I needed to deal with the installer. Just a note: I contacted Flexstone and they sent Garth Yeo, who introduced himself on paper as a/the Flexstone Installer. My email attempt to contact Ken Magoski at Flexstone head office with my complaint is still unanswered.
I am truly disappointed with Flexstone, Walter and Garth. Their guarantee means nothing.
***Follow up to Walter's response:***
I have several issues with your response Walter.
You are claiming that you refer people who have installed your material.
I appreciate the referral but would have been good to know all the facts and details.
You have only recently told me that there are two contractors in my area that have bought and installed FlexStone material which do not work for FlexStone but only buy your materials to do the installs.
You also wrote that "we state the length of time they have done installs".
I never received such information regarding Garth's install experience.
If you have the email that you sent me with this information, I will gladly retract these comments. You have my email, you can forward it to me.
Now knowing that there were two installer in my area, I could have contacted and/or potentially received quotes from both of these installers and made an informative decision.
I was led to believe that Garth, the person that contacted me, worked for FlexStone with his introduction as the FlexStone Certified Installer and the quote that he provided me with a FlexStone header and email on his quote? Yes, Garth used his Hotmail email but why would he have a FlexStone email address and why would he post it on his quote? Misleading and Misrepresentation.
I trusted and thought that I was dealing with FlexStone.
You go on to make a comment about the "true cost estimate based on costs and prior knowledge". For the record, Garth had prior knowledge. Garth did a site visit, inspected the issues and then gave me a price for the extra work to remove the old top coat.
As you and I previously discussed in one of our phone conversations, if Garth made a mistake in quoting the removal, that is something that he would have to absorb.
If however, I would have added or made changes to the work involved, then we could have discussed changes to the extra costs.
The other point to the extra cost, is that Garth is saying that we discussed this. I want to make it clear, we never had any discussion about changes to the work or changes to the extra costs.
Garth's solution was to skip steps and tried to hide that fact that he didn't finish stripping the old top coat and he failed to fill in the low spots as well as failing to install the non-slip silica making our patio very dangerous right now.
It's great that FlexStone refers contractors, however was not advised of all the facts so that we/I could have made the informative decision in doing this job.
I am still left with a patio that is dangerous to walk on when wet and cool, has lifting and peeling material, still shows the old patterned top coat and has pitted areas.
This job needs to be completely redone and Garth is denying accountability and responsibility, and is now only offering to do a band aid repair to the low area and air bubbles and he wants me to sign a waiver for any future issues???
What a nightmare you guys have put me and my wife through and we still have to get it redone.
Hi
I contacted Garth who has finally gotten back to both of us and has purchased material to do the repair for the project. Garths email is a hotmail account and we only refer people who have installed our materials, we state the length of time they have done installs and the ultimate choice to hire any contractor is the clients. The installation is between the installer and client. Garth has not trained anyone and that is only done onsite at my shop by registration we have 2 installers in your area and both choices are usually given but Garth does have more installation experience. I have not seen the project and people who purchase materials from Flexstone are purchasing from a supplier. The project seems to be a workmanship issue not a product issue. i have requested Garth to do the repair who as all installers is a independent contractor with his own company. He has pre purchased materials to do the repairs in the spring. We supply materials and do recommend contractors, but when issues arise we do our best to get the contractor to resolve the issue, the materials have not failed the installer did not do his due diligence to prep the surface, although he did explain the product would take longer than expected and would cost more to remove than the estimate provided. I understand he provided a quote but as any quote is a true cost estimate based on costs and prior knowledge. The removal was more challenging and time consuming than estimated. The discussion of costs is between client and contractor thus having nothing to do with our product. I do understand that you are not happy with the outcome but as stated this is a workmanship issue.
Flexstone does warranty its product, we do not warranty workmanship done by private contractors.
WOULD NOT recommend ! While the Flexstone product may be ok, they do not stand behind the product nor the installers. We had it installed and the installer made several errors, did not return to fix with us hounding him and now has disappeared and Walter has wiped his hands of the problem. The product warranty means nothing - will find an excuse not to fix, not to come see the problem....DO NOT USE! I am the type of person who happily recommends services and people and usually does not provide a negative review but when the experience is this bad, I felt I needed to warn other innocent buyers.
Last May we contracted with Walter to install a Flexstone deck and a custom railing on our rental home. The deck is on the second floor. He installed the decking as agreed and was paid. He said he would come back to do the railing. It has been 7 months now and we are still waiting for him to return. The house is rented and there is a huge liability issue with the roof top deck with no railing, as you can imagine. We have left many messages on his answering machine, and a couple months ago he returned one of our many calls saying he would be there "next week" to install the railing. No railing has yet been installed and he has not returned our calls.
For years I though I had no long term choice but to have my patio and pool deck dug up and replaced with concrete.
Luckily I found Walt Deveau and Flexstone.
I couldn't be happier with the result. The quality of work was first rate.
The price was more than fair.
The work was completed in just a few days and the job site (my back yard) was kept clean and had no upsets to our regular daily routine.
Walter and his crew were very hard working ,friendly and courteous.
The Job was started on a Tuesday and we were swimming in the pool Friday.
Great Job Walter Thank you
J. Fairgrieve
Installers chain smoked cigarettes everywhere. Music blaring. Were supposed to be finished job a week before. Late on job. And when asked when they were going to be done, actually violated privacy and said, actual quote, "why, are you having people over, what are your plans?" Seriously?!? Not to mention the product is horiffic. Very industrial...not meant for home application.
My cement wheelchair ramp was very slippery in the winter. I contacted Flexstone and they came promptly to give me an estimate. The work was done shortly after and it is an amazing surface. I no longer slip when pushing my son up the ramp. The surface is easy to clean and looks great.
Later I had a patio roof that needed to be covered and Flexstone came back to cover it with their waterproof surface. Both jobs were done professionally, on time, and within budget.
