I have been using GVS for many years now as my primary bin service provider. He has always been prompt with delivering and removing bins as I need him to. I often give him very little notice and can rely on him to accommodate.
He has been helpful in educating my workers as to how to best load the bins and with what materials to reduce my overall tipping fees.
I will continue to use GVS for all my waste disposal needs and would recommend him to others.
Hello,
I have used Greater Victoria Services Numerous accounts.
For Garbage bins and refuse for soil removal and machine delivery.
I have never had Mr Gondor not show up on time.
He has always been on time and on budget.
He as also always been fair priced and never over or under quoted me on anything.
I feel like people who give poor reviews are not always telling the full story or leaving some of the details out of it.
I would not hesitate for hire Greater Victoria Services again..
My experience with GVS was terrible. I hope this is read by their potential clients prior to hiring Dorian gondor to perform any work.
No matter how simply the job - gondor will somehow mess things up. He is dishonest, and definetly does not have the experience to landscape. Here is why:
- expect huge time delays. Took almost 4 months to wrap up my project
- expect sloppy work. No quality in his work, landscaping beds were a mess, sprinkler lines were zig zagging all over the place in one spot into my neighbours yard. Then he tried to lay the grass seeds on top soil when the property wasn't raked out debris all over the place from trenching irrigation lines
- expect damage to property. Mainly because he cant follow directions and relay that info to his staff. They drove their dump truck over storm and sewer pipes, excavator broke retaining wall. He installed a bed that washed away
- his Labourers are temporary and have no knowledge or experience with landscaping. But I felt
Sorry for these lads I had to command his troops many times and I could see they were at wits end with gondor. They told me inside info that he was the same with other clients and screwing up
- once gondor couldn't deliver I threatened to stop work at which point his dad guy gondor showed up who was the same. At one point his mom was also raking the soil
So hopefully this helps - lots of trades out there and this company is one to stay away no matter the price he quotes. I hired gondor GVS to provide dump bins and it started from there as he marketed himself as a landscaper with machines to do my job.
A decision that I regret and I am still sorting out my yard.
Had the Contractor (Darian Gondor) come by to view a job removing sod and replacing it with road base and 3/4 crush to park an RV on along with some landscaping in our front yard in Victoria BC Canada. We agreed to an estimate (no. 1004) for $850 plus taxes ($903.70 inclusive).
This was to be a time and materials job.
When the job happened, Darian was extremely sloppy in his arrivals, never being on time, in fact several times not showing up at all for 24 hours or more. He routinely lied about when he would arrive, and grossly underestimated how long things would take him to complete. In fact, at one point he took off for 6 days leaving his Bobcat machine in my driveway rendering it unusable. He annoyed the neighbours greatly, left a giant mess for me to clean up in public spaces repeatedly, and did a terrible job overall.
When he finally did arrive, on the first day he was there for 30 minutes, then told me he had to go to a doctors' appointment but he would go to a dump that was cheaper near the appointment. Well he never returned that day, and then later claims he was in line at the "cheaper dump" for a couple of hours.
We agreed to a specific size, and more importantly depth. I made it clear I was trying to keep the costs down. We agreed to 4-8" deep. On the day he dug in some areas to four feet deep! This is important because a large part of the costs was the back fill, in this case - road base. So because "the machine slipped" as he put it, i know once again have to pay for more material costs.
We did expand the size of the area by less than 50%.
When I was presented with the bill, the price had now increased greatly to $1,631.70.
I was not happy with this. He demanded payment immediately, which was annoying. But I was happy to pay immediately, just not close to double the original amount. I told him as we added 50% to the area, I was happy to increase my amount by 50% which would have been $1,275, but instead paid him $1,400 to go above and beyond.
He refused in fact refusing to negotiate at all. I paid the amount partially and left it at that.
A month later, Darian and his Daddy show up at my home and act super aggressively to let me know they're filing a Lien immediately, and as we're renting, we will be evicted.
I don't want to be bullied into payment, but now I have no choice, but to share my story in the hopes of preventing others from experiencing the same thing. If you've had a bad experience with him, let me know. But please do file a BBB complaint at very least. I'd love to add further bad experiences with Darian to this blog to help future people avoid working with him.
