Hunter Home Improvements renovated our unfinished basement and we are very happy with the job they did. The quality of the work was outstanding and the basement looks amazing. The original price was good and they were very reasonable with any of the add-on costs that inevitably come up with a job as large as this one. Michael is very professional, accommodating, and it was obvious he took pride in his work. The only complaint we had was that the job was completed well past the original finish date as the job was larger than originally thought. To their credit, the basement was ready when we needed it to be and all our friends and relatives were also impressed with the quality and appearance of our newly finished basement. Hunter Home Improvements will be our first choice for future renovations.
Michael was very professional, prompt and trustworthy. Last summer, he was laying a patio for a neighbour who was pleased with his work. We are in a townhouse so our neighbour needed access through our back yard. Michael and his team were courteous and left no mark once their work was done - it was a heavy job. We were impressed by this so we asked for a quote to paint our livingroom and stairway to second floor (with a very high inaccessible wall). His quote was fair and he was very timely with responses to arrange the job. He also arrived right on-time - again we were very impressed by this since contractors are notoriously not on time. He did not leave until the job was done to our satisfaction. The paint job was done smooth with few brush or roller strokes evident; edges were clean. And done in one day to avoid disruption - just prior to Christmas so we would have a new look for family. Highly recommended.
Having Michael do work on our house has been a pleasure. He is prompt to return phone calls and arrives on time. His work is good quality and his helpful advice has saved us money. He has gone above and beyond our expectations and we will continue to use his expertise in the future.
Hello, My name is Jacob of Newmarket, Ontario. I employed the services of Mr. Mike Hunter to help build my wife's business and he did an outstanding work. The finished product exceeded my expectation and my expectations as it relates to construction are usually very high. What he specified at the beginning as it relates to costs/charges held true at the end. That is hard to find these days. He was a true gentleman in the ways he conducted himself, there were absolutely no surprises from start to finish. I will proudly use Mr. Hunter for future projects and will strongly recommend him to others.
Michael and his team at Hunter Home Improvements have always provided us with outstanding service. He has worked at our home many times over the past two years and always gives us an honest assessment of household maintenance items that need to be taken care of while still respecting our budget. We have recommended him to many friends and will continue to do so.
I am very satisfied with the work Michael Hunter did repairing my deck. He showed up on time to discuss the job, listened to me when I explained what I wanted to be done, and began the work promptly. He came by the following day, after I paid him, to do a few additional touch-up jobs. I highly recommend Michael Hunter to work on any renovation or repair projects.
When I hired this contractor, I did not know how to read an estimate. The lack of communication left us to install the bathub plumbing, contrary to our expectations. He chose to wipe mildew off the bathtub drywall, instead of replacing it. He left debris in the bathtub drain, a chisel and debris in the heating vent. He left globs of plaster on surfaces and grout on tiles. Materials were wasted, and as such I could not return them for credit. We couldn't install the toliet without substantial chipping and grinding of poorly applied tile and grout. He requested pictures of the flange, which we provided. His position was that it was our problem to fix.
OVERVIEW
My name is Michael Hunter of Hunter Home Improvements. I do treat all our customers respectfully and encourage honesty and open communication. All my quotes and Estimates are detailed with no material mark-ups, so the customer knows exactly what they are paying for. In order for a project to go well, both parties must accept responsibility and accountability for their own roles.
Debra stated that the other contractors would only do the whole bathroom renovation which would cost too much. I also showed her how she could save money by reusing the existing tub since it is fairly new-looking and just needed to be cleaned. This is what Debra communicated to me as to why she hired me -because I was willing to work with her ideas and within her budget.
JOB PRIORITY
Debra emphasized the importance of:
-Eliminating future water damage.
-Repair existing water damage.
-Updating the areas of her bathroom that she was not able to do herself, as this would greatly reduce her costs.
As part of her goal to keep costs down, Debra made it clear to me that her boyfriend was going to do the plumbing. Unfortunately, this proved to be more difficult for them than they anticipated and caused loss of 6 man hours for Hunter Home Improvements and added frustration for Debra which became a catalyst to launch more faults against our services. I did not charge her extra for the lost time.
Below, I will address each of her remarks individually:
DEBRA -"If using this service you must be very clear that the contractor has understood what you want. The contractor was trying to save me money and I ended up not getting what I wanted and was left to deal with unanticipated problems. Check the estimate very carefully to make sure that it includes everything you expect. I didn't understand how to thoroughly check the contract and so much of what I had requested, did not get done."
REBUTTAL: Communication was very good on my part. Above Debra does admit, she did not check the quote thoroughly to make sure I had on there what I understood she wanted. But I was sympathetic to her frustration. But yes, I did save her money. And, on the quote (can be shown as proof) I listed all the things in detail that she was paying for. I always make sure to provide detailed estimates and quotes so people know exactly what they are paying for. No where on the quote she accepted was listed anything that she said she didn't get.
DEBRA: Debris was left in the bathtub. Debris was left in the bathtub drain. Debris and a chisel were left in the heating vent. The flange of the toilet was left covered with grout and had to be chipped away. Plastering was splashed over ends and had to be scraped off. Tile grout was splashed over many tiles and had to be scrubbed off. That is why I listed cleanliness as poor.
REBUTTAL: I had a tarp covering the bathtub while I removed old tiles, refinished walls, and re-tiled and grouted. Even so, some particles can still make its way into the drain area. I did thoroughly clean the tub out, but there was some small dusty type debris around the drain edge -my mistake.
I got a call claiming that her tub drain was plugged solid with grey debris. Even though I said it was impossible, she insisted and that she wanted t fixed. When I got there, I shortly discovered that the drain was wide open and it was just that the pipe turned beneath the tub and it was the grey inside colour of the pipe they were looking at. Then I discovered that they hadn't even tried to put water through it to see if it worked.
For each problem listed about, it is simply a result of her frustration with things not related to our service. Not to make public the problems associated with her and her boyfriends plumbing role in the project, and lack of characters left in this rebuttal form I will respectfully end hear.
This is a very competitive business and we rely on what we do for livelihood for our families. It is important that we maintain our integrity and honesty.
From day one i found Hunter Home Improvements to be very professional and easy to deal with. Michael went to quote my job, and took extra time to explain the detail by providing drawings and a quote. I hired Michael to replace a basement window (rip out the old one, cut the opening larger, put in a larger one). The job was completed in a timely manor and the quality was excellent. There were a few hiccups along the way but nothing Michael couldnt resolve. The new window went in with no fuss. I highly reccomend Michael and would use him for any future renovation projects I have.
