Mike Auger was hired to update our home with renovations to the bedrooms, kitchen, bathroom, living room. He asked my family and I to go on a mini vacation for a few days so he and his team can work in the house with no interruptions.
When we returned 3 days later the house was no where near completion, still in the demolition faze. When Mike was asked, he said it mike take 1 more week. My family and I went to live with family for the week, to save money from staying in a hotel for a week.
One week later we returned to our “home” to find it in more of a disaster than it was the week previous. The floors in the bedroom were halfway done, the bathroom was torn apart with the shower being tiled and no protective schluter barrier to protect from water leaks. The living room was ripped apart and the kitchen was not started.
When Mike was asked for an explanation on what is going on, he became defensive and said we were pressuring him too much. After this this conversation Mike was not showing up at the house anymore. When contacted he would say he was “sick”. A couple weeks have past and my family and I were still not able to move home. Being that I gave all the money I had to Mike, I needed to get the house completed so my family and I can move back in.
I took a loan out from the bank and contacted family and friends to help me fix my house that he destroyed.
After roughly 2 weeks of excuses Mike had why he couldn’t come back to the house he finally contacted me saying he’s feeling better and can try to come back, I told him his services will not be required anymore and I wanted all my money back I gave him and all the supplies he purchased with receipts.
Mike disappeared and could not be reached for another 2 weeks. Finally when I got him on the phone, and I told him I want my money back, Mike’s response was “take me to court cause your not getting your money back”.
We now have Mr Auger in court. Below is the work of Mike Auger...
Needed to make my home accessable for me as I am in a wheelchair and need to accomadate my situation so I can still live at home. I gave him a downpayment of 4,000 which i do have a receipt for and tried contacting him for 3 weeks and I got no response so I now have the police involved and the newspaper and I also am taking him to court. I will not lay down and play dead I hope he sees this and other people see this so they won't hire him because he is a scam artist even during the pandemic when we should be helping each other not scamming!!!
Avoid at all costs. They took the job over from another contractor so we were excited about finally getting our basement done. We have to get a real professional in to fix this professionals many, many mistakes. Almost had to physically put him in his place for being disrespectful to my wife (which to his credit, he did voluntarily apologize for). Took 3 weeks longer than estimated and nearly $1300 more than quoted and it’s still a disaster. Nick is a nice guy (one of the nicest you can get) but Mike is a different story completely. Had to let them leave without pointing out the missed work for a third time simply out of frustration. Painting not complete or even started in one part, barely sanded, horrible drywall finishing (we had someone lined up to fix the drywall but were assured they could handle it) until they couldn’t and his excuse was they are not drywallers, two holes to nowhere trying to find our water shut off valve and still cannot access it (see pics). Door to laundry room handle doesn’t line up so can’t close the door (see pics) didn’t put a moulding on the corner leading to basement steps (see pics) door at top of steps is super tight, not finished (see pics) and loud when opening it. Messed up our plumbing in laundry sink and had to get a real plumber in to fix it. It’s just bad for Reno’s - decking and fencing I’m not sure but interior stuff... AVOID
Wow... I'm shocked.
We came in to fix up a horrible job that was left for us by a "handy man".
The drywall job was terrible, we are not drywallers our self.
When pricing the job, we had no idea the extent of the job.
The fuse box was covered over, plumbing shut offs where hidden.
We were hired to do flooring and trim originally, tried to help out the frustrated home owners by doing damage controle.
We worked over the easter weekend and through the pandemic. Missed 1 day on 3 weeks and was made to feel like we where horrible people.
Plumbing!!!
I hooked up a laundry sink and it leaked after trying to fix it... I told the owners we need a plumber, they hired a family friend and I covered more than 60% of the plumbers bill.... we handled this like professionals.
We never acted like a plumber or drywallers. They knew that the whole time. They were extremely nice to our face but obviously these people are not of good character.
Yes the bill was higher than the original quote but they also added a bunch more work.
I more thing. I was always respectful towards the clients, however 1 day I had to put my foot down, we cant keep going backwards. She wanted me to redo trim around a window.
I took the trim off and re did it. That's when Sean came to give me trouble because his wife's feelings were hurt.
I apologised on the spot to said wife, only to keep the peace.
The owners were high 24/7 and even encouraged drugs and alcohol on site. Not a good recipe for quality work.
The fact that they didnt say anything to us about how un happy they are with our work, just paid us and posted this review is absolutely disturbing.
We worked for less money on this job than ANY other ever if you count our hours...
The scariest part is the wife works for a kitchen design firm selling and planning big jobs and has No idea what goes into a renovation. Absolutely clueless...
Well I seen this other review too late but I guess there must be more to the story as I had no issues with my flooring being installed it was click flooring maybe that’s different I am not exactly sure but I had him redo my basement and I was quite impressed with the quality of work and the price and timing was very good as he worked around my work hours as I couldn’t have anyone work between 7am-Noon and they were able to work around my odd schedule and worked noon-8pm for me and only took them 2 days to lay all the flooring and clean up I was quite satisfied with the service and I am glad I hadn’t seen the previous review as I would of more than likely passed on the services and paid another $300 as that closest quote to his was $300 more.
I hired Mike Auger to sand and refinish my hardwood floors.
When he came to give a quote, he talked a good game. Said it's what his company does. They're experts. Claimed to be licensed and bonded.
I hired him and gave him a large deposit. He did indeed sand and stain the floors, but it looked like a toddler had done it. Instead of the beautiful sleek floors I imagined, I ended up with massive splotches and streaks, and deep scarred scuff marks from the sander. When I expressed concern halfway through the job, his response was, "Don't worry about the splotches. You can cover them with furniture."
When I texted and called him several times to attempt to rectify the matter, he ghosted me. Thank goodness for my other excellent contractors. They rallied, and found me another floor guy who was amazing. The new guy had his crew work nights to get it done so the other contractors could get in there and I could move in on time. But I'm out the sizable chunk of money I paid Mr Auger.
Every one of my other contractors (painters, railing guy, new floor guy, and carpet guys) all said they have never seen such a terrible flooring job. Mr Auger had no idea what he was doing.
Mike Auger of Conrwall misrepresented himself as a licensed and bonded expert, the address he gave on his invoices is phony, claims to be in Ottawa, but is actually in Cornwall, I can not find any record of his company Hammer Away Construction, and he is still advertising his services all over the net (some with another person named Nick Auger). If you're thinking of hiring him, I highly suggest you BEWARE! He's an amateur who does shoddy work for a quick buck, and he'll cost you money to fix his errors.
