We found our experience with Steve & his crew to be very professional. Their quality of work is second to none along with very strong communication so my wife and myself were kept up to date on the progress of the project. This factor alone is very important considering the times we are in & the problems Steve encountered in obtaining much needed supplies.

The construction was completed on schedule & only varied minimally from the quote because of unforeseen repairs which Steve highlighted & addressed. The crew cleaned

the work site daily & allowed us to have a normal life despite the ongoing construction.

In fact Steve is currently constructing a new deck for my wife`s sister. Our family is trying to keep him busy as his work is of such high quality.

In a year filled with challenges, we have a beautiful, perfect, solid deck. Our plan of having the old deck removed after Thanksgiving the previous year and the new one ready for the long weekend in May fell apart when Covid hit. Construction was halted in Ontario and therefore so was our deck. It took some time for the construction to be allowed to begin but when it did we had the workers on site at 7 each morning. They were so careful with every part of the design and any issues they found were corrected immediately. We were brought up to date regularly by email or phone and time-line explained. From start to finish a perfect deck was their aim. The workers were Very skilled, courteous, well mannered and neat and tidy. They left each night with everything put away and all cleaned up.

While we didn’t have our deck on the expected date for good reason, we would definitely recommend this company.

Steve New’s level of professionalism, communication skills and dedication to quality craftsmanship was evident at very first contact and during the initial planning stage. The old deck was removed and replaced, including new railings and steps. In addition, an enclosure was built below the new deck and existing sunroom to provide a much needed storage area.

Steve came promptly to assess the job, then was extremely helpful and provided new ideas for our consideration. He stayed in touch throughout the project, visiting the site regularly.

The crew members were punctual, courteous and tidied up at the end of each working day.

Our cottage has been in the family since 1910 and, needless to say, is minimal and very rustic. The approach is down 34 uneven stone steps and yet another 25 to the lake, It has become increasingly difficult, indeed dangerous, to scale those steps without the aid of a railing. Steve carefully listened to our wishes and came up with an ingenious plan; functional, extremely durable and most attractive. It is also completely in keeping with buildings on the property.

Steve dropped in regularly to check on the work, and Scott, as the site foreman, was amazing, most skilled and hard working. It is no small fete to sink 17 posts into rock beside winding paths!

Everyone in the family is most pleased with the outcome.

Steve and his crew did a wonderful job for us replacing an original balcony earlier in year. At that time I ran another problem by Steve that I wanted to get rectified. We have an elevated sunroom off the back of our cottage. When it was originally built in the in the mid 90’s the builder did not provide rot protection for the cedar support posts. I asked Steve if he could insert support brackets between the competent posts and the footing. He went to a steel fabricator to source a heavy duty version of what he uses in the construction of his balconies. This was not a simple deck build, it required taking the load off the posts, one by one, cutting off the bottom 10” of the post then inserting and bolting the bracket to the footing. The final step was the building of custom decorative boxes at the bottom to cover the brackets. For anyone that has deteriorating deck posts this is a very efficient fix.

In this day and age when it seems some trades people don't return your phone calls, don't show up for appointments, provide ambiguous start dates and provide poor workmanship, NORTHWOOD CUSTOM DECKS IS TRULY AN EXCEPTION. Steve New (owner) provides a clear quote and communicates with you on an ongoing basis throughout the whole process and Scott (lead hand) and his crew work diligently, meticulously and tirelessly providing the customer with a deck like no other. The attention to detail and quality of workmanship is amazing to say the least. Our new deck is beautiful and will last forever.
