This company moved our household goods from Calgary to Windsor via Toronto with a month of storage. The total payment to them was about $4000 less than the quotes from the National companies for the same total weight of the shipment. However, this company does not stand by their guarantees and normal responsibility for the condition of the goods and insurance to cover the items.
A large framed artwork was stolen from the shipment somewhere along the line of their transfers of goods or in their storage facility. The art piece is worth about $3500 and they have made no attempt to make an insurance claim or to get back to me to discuss what they are going to do about it.
Other than that, the contractors they use were OK, but they charge a lot of extras for any packing materials or time spent packing pictures and other stuff that you have not already done. You have to have every last item packed and ready in order to get the discounted rate they are offering in the estimate. Additionally, the original estimate was ridiculously low, but I checked the actual weight (from Allieds' estimate) and multiplied by Trillium's cost per pound to come up with about $10,000 estimated cost. The actual total demanded (before delivery of your goods) was $12,500 and with the stolen piece of artwork the actual cost to me was $16,000 which is about what Allied and others were quoting right from the start.
So there was no actual cost savings using Trillium and nobody stood by their claims of an insured shipment. In fact the customer service people avoided calling be back about the stolen piece and I had to keep hounding them. They did not seem too concerned that someone in their organization is a basic criminal. Eventually I gave up calling them and they figure I can't afford to take them to court... they may be correct on that issue.
So, I would not recommend using this outfit as it was generally a great disappointment in business relations and I lost a unique and irreplaceable piece of artwork during their moving process.
we had such a horrible experience with this company back in October. first we had problem with scaling. first they came with 3260lbs, but we didn't accept it and told them that we will rescaling once we received our items and will legally follow the case. and asked them to send us the scaling ticket. they refused to send it to us but they came with new scaling . this time was 2340lbs. it seems they just switched the first two digits!!. funny. Anyway we had waited for a long time so we just wanted to receive our furniture, so we accepted the new scaling even though we knew it's not accurate either. finally we received our delivery after 3 weeks patiently waiting! our furniture were damaged. even though they had charged us for the plastic wraps, all the wraps was ripped off, and the wooden part was broken. our china was all broken , It seems someone just dropped its box on purpose!. we claimed our damage and after 2 months waiting, they said they will pay us $75!!!they caused over $5000 damages and I don't know how they came up with $75 idea!!!. Don't EVER try this company or you regret.
If I could give it negative I would. Trillium is the absolute worst moving company I've dealt with. From start to finish I had problems with every step. The movers dropped a freezer which scratched the hardwood floor and dented the drywall along with smashing the couch in a corner causing a large dent. After 3 months of negotiation and being told they would cover the cost they went back on our agreement. My material weight seemed high, so after getting them to re-weigh, they were off over 1500lbs. A dozen items were broken or damaged and some were just missing. After making a claim, it took over 60 emails to get an unfair resolution. I have never dealt with such a dishonest and unethical company. I would recommend going to any other company for moving as I'm sure there are some people out there with some morals.
Hiring Trillium Moving and Storage has been one of the worst decisions I've ever made. The full story's below, but here's a condensed version for those in a hurry:
- Was quoted $1900 for shipment, then charged $5014 immediately before delivery. Goods would be held hostage until payment was made.
- All outgoing inventory was marked as broken and damaged, so Trillium would not be held responsible. Goods were in terrible condition on arrival.
- Communication throughout was deliberately poor and misleading.
I received quotes from a dozen companies online, and Trillium came back with the cheapest quote. I requested a visual survey, and was told that they do not offer them for smaller shipments, but they would provide an estimate if I give them a detailed list of our belongings. I provided this, and received a quote for $1900 and so hired them.
As the moving day approached I had heard nothing from Trillium. I followed up to check on the final weight/cost. Trillium responded, but my request was ignored. I followed up again, twice, and was again ignored both times.
Weeks later, and shortly before delivery was due, I received a call from the driver of the company Trillium uses called Vega Line saying the shipment would arrive in two days time, and I must have payment of $5014 ready to pay on arrival. This was more than $3000 higher than the original estimate. I assumed there must have been some mistake, so I called Kate Roberts (our customer service rep) who told me that the weight was higher than the estimate, so the price would be considerably greater. I asked why I was not told earlier, and she simply said they have no obligation to tell me at any specific time. I told her I could not afford that much, and asked her to return the shipment, but she said she could not do that, and that, if I did not pay, our belongings would be placed in storage, at the cost of $175/month. After a certain amount of time, they would sell our belongings.
I asked for a lower rate and was told by Kate that she would have to speak to her manager, who would be away. This went on for days until I researched the company and found out that Kate Roberts was in fact owner and manager and had been lying to me. When I confronted her about this, she denied being the manager.
I finally accepted that I had fallen victim to the classic mover's scam: I was given a super-low estimate designed to prey on individuals without a great deal of disposable income, my goods were packed in the truck, and then the price was hiked up, and the goods were held hostage. Sadly after a bit of Googling (too late), I found I was not the first person Trillium had done this too. See below for just one news story:
http://www.trurodaily.com/News/Local/2013-11-07/article-3471225/Moving-woes-leave-Little-Dyke-couple-living-in-near-unfurnished-home/1
I refused to pay, knowing that something illegal was occurring. I contacted the Ministry of Government and Consumer Services, who affirmed to me that this was an illegal act, and that it is against the law in Canada and the US for any company to charge more than 10% higher than an estimate. I told this to Kate, who said that the quote she provided was a non-binding quote, rather than a binding quote, and the law doesn't apply to such quotes. I contacted the Ministry again, who said that, under Canadian law, there is no such distinction between binding and non-binding contacts, and it was clearly an illegal act, and I could easily pursue legal action. I went back and forth with Kate and only once I had filed an official complaint and sent her the letter confirming this, I received word that the goods were not being held in storage after all, but were on the way to me. Once received, many of my goods were damaged, and some items were completely missing. Unfortunately, the next part of the scam shows the inventory form used to pick up the shipment indicates all my stuff "chipped," "scratched" and "worn" which it was not.
If I could give this "moving" company a NEGATIVE rating I would, considering they are NOT an actually moving company they are a dispatch company that hires other companies to more your things for them. Right from the get go I should have noticed the red flags, they seemed to be kind and greatly priced once I said I would hire them to be my moving company it all went down hill from there. Not only was it impossible to get ahold of my customer service rep, but when it came down to actually having a dispute and told her I was tired of the nonsense and wanted to make a complaint she told me this was not necessary and did not give me the information of her manager until I insisted once again. Once I finally got ahold of their so called "manager" I figured things would work out, boy was I mistaken. Not only did I waste numerous time and patience with this woman, they have now also wasted my money. I could send this woman 3 emails before she would get back to me and trying to get ahold of someone in the office in nearly impossible as they seem to ALWAYS be "out." After all the issues I have had with this company I have not been given a single apology, or explanation as why they seem to utterly incompetent and rude. A move that would have cost me 3000$ with any other moving company has now cost me 4500$ and did I mention I still haven't received my items. As of tomorrow I "should" have my items finally after being almost half a month late, and I will be posting pictures as I can already assume there will be damage and missing items as they continue to astound me with their incompetence. Not only is Trillium moving the worst company to do business with, the actual movers they hire are beyond rude and always late. They give you a 4 hour window to when they will arrive and still cant even manage to be on time. First time they showed up they were an hour late after the window they had given us, the second time they were 2 hours later after the window they had given us, so I expect nothing less when they arrive tomorrow. No only were they late both times but when they did arrive they did not give us an explanation as to why or a single apology, not only this but they were extremely rude when they spoke to us and took no care when moving our items. I will be posting more after they show up AGAIN tomorrow, but I would like to reiterate Trillum Moving is the WORST company you could ever chose to move your belonging. If you care about your belongings, time, money and patience DO NOT use this company and inform anyone you know who will be moving to do the same as I will be with all of my friends and family.
My wife and I hired Trillium to move our belongings from a storage unit in Fredericton to our new home in Calgary. We chose them from a large pool of big and small movers that all had good and bad reviews. Overall our experience was poor, but from what I've learned since sharing experiences with many people who have hired many different movers, it was a typical moving experience. Maybe the whole industry is broken. Maybe the rates are too low to be able to provide consistently good service.
We had a few of damaged items, a lost lawnmower, and lots and lots of scuffs and nicks and scratches. The damaged items were all packed by the movers, and after watching how a move goes I'm not surprised that so many items got banged up in the process.
My estimated and actual weights were very different (actual was almost double) but since the estimate was done using industry standards for our goods I wasn't surprised that there was a difference. You pay for what the load actually weighs, so there really isn't much use in estimates, only the price/lb and the conditions of the move are important when comparing movers.
I requested a weigh scale ticket to show the tare and load weights and justify the final invoice, and what I was given was a note on Trillium letterhead stating that the load was weighed at their own scale in Toronto and stated the net weight. That wasn't going to fly with my company (who were paying for my move) so I then requested (in fact, argued for) a re-weigh at a public certified scale. It's important to note that using public certified scales is required in the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario Regulation 643/05 (Section 18.1) and the other provincial Regs I looked at as well.
Of course normally there's no way to know what's in the truck when the weights are taken, but that's another story... Anyway, I was surprised to see that there was a significant difference between Trillium's own scale and the truck stop scale. Trillium's weight was much higher (>1200 lbs).
I was provided a refund for the difference in weight as well as the re-scaling fee (the truck stop charged $200, which I payed for out of pocket) without hesitation, but also without an explanation.
Two small but not insignificant good parts of the whole experience: communication was professional and timely, and delivery was only a little late.
I also learned a funny thing: the movers (any movers) have little motivation other than online reviews to provide good service: if you're insured, then the insurance company will pay for damages; if you're not insured, then nobody pays for damages. The moving company is only responsible for $0.60/lb whether we're talking a box of old paperbacks or a big screen TV.
Next time - as much as it will be difficult - we'll get a UHaul and drive our own stuff across the country.
I recently received a promotion and was scheduled to relocate to NYC as for the new year to start my new position. Chloe was our moving planner and she was extremely helpful. Kate was also available when I needed answers.
We received am in-home estimate for 4 different companies and our employer selected Trillium. Not only because of the price but also because of the services they could perform. Full packing was a requirement along with partial storage and hoisting services at delivery time.
We required some partial storage and delivery first week of January in NY. Everything went as planned and our most important requirement which was the delivery time frame was when they delivered.
It was wonderful to work with Jack and Mark and his team at delivery. Great to see that there are people out there who still love what they are doing and are still devoted to the work not just the pay.
Great review for Trillium Moving as they really did deserve it. Thanks to the wonderful customer service team as well.

As a person who is on the go all the time, I really dont have time to go online and write reviews. However, being that Chloe was so wonderful to deal with during this stressful move, I promised the company that I would post something following my delivery.
I would like to report that I was very happy with the service. We relocated our office and small family condo from Quebec Saint Laurent area to Florida. We are finally retiring.
Through no fault of the company there were some delays with closing the new home here and we had no choice but to arrange storage at the last minute. The company was kind enough to place the goods in storage, locate the storage facility and pay for it. Once we were able to have access to our home, they re-arrange delivery and everything went as scheduled.
I was extremely impressed with the response times through the company and Chloe was amazing to deal with. We had made changes to our reservation every other day almost and through all of this she was still great to deal with.
We have another part of our office to move and Trillium Moving has already started the packing job on that one. Excellent Service!
Trillium Moving was recommended to my family by a friend who moved with them. Their rates were very reasonable and they offered us storage at no extra charge. I was impressed by the promot responses from the office staff, and customer service was excellent.
The staff/crew was great at both ends, and the driver was a very nice fellow who was great to deal with. He helped us ensure that everything was packed properly and aside from some minor damages, I was pleasantly suprised.
Great service and I would recommend them for a move/storage services.
