There are so many brands available. Is there a big difference between them?
Which ones are the best? And why?
Hi Jean-Pierre,
When you look at gutter sealant you want to make sure to avoid the spray ones. They aren't really made for the Canadian climate.
You want to make sure that it's also mildew resistant with good elasticity that won't shrink with time since we have both extremes of the climate scale. (Really cold or really hot)
There's many brands that can do the job and not many differences between them.
I personally use the GE brand "GE Gutter & Flashing Sealant, Clear " that I get at the local Canadian Tire or Rona.
Hope that answered your question and have a good day !
Thank for your answer!
Is there a reason why you prefer this one?
Have a great day too!
If you clean the gutter well so it has a good clean surface to bond to then a silicone product should work well.
If bond is questionable due to small areas of dust or hard to clean spots, I may be inclined to use a hybrid sealant (silane terminated) type. This will provide more stick but is messy with handling.
If there is any asphalt products to be tied to, it will be harder to complete. An STPE sealant such as Bakor BES may work but most are not designed to sit in standing water.
