Best barrier to restrict weeds/sapling growth under a deck?

This spring I will be taking up my deck boards so that I can re-lay landscape fabric under the deck. Saplings from a near-bye tree are growing up between the boards and I have been cutting them proud to the deck every week during the spring growing season. They seem to grow about 1/2 inch a day and each year the issue gets worse. Given that I must remove and re-install the deck boards I thought I would lay down two layers of fabric. A friend suggested instead of fabric I use screen (ie the stuff used to screen in a porch). I am not so sure that would work. Any opinions.? Landscape fabric vs aluminium screen for the task?

The only way I have found for a permanent fix is, weed cloth over entire deck area and then gravel on top. This is done prior to a deck build, in your case remove decking then rebuild.

I have tried many different products to keep weeds down and the best I have found to work is landscape fabric or plastic vapour barrier

And then for a cleaner look put down clean stone

All the best and good luck with your project

We do this all the time in our deck builds.

We put high quality landscape fabric, not the junk you find at the big box stores, directly on the soil then a layer of gravel to keep it neat and tidy.
