You would have needed to ask for all receipts prior to work commencing. Thats why I prefer providing materials list and having clients order and pay for work materials prior to work commencing. Reusing materials from your property is a good thing though, or you would have paid for removal and a garbage box.

If the work is aound and aesthetically please ing that's what matters moat.

Hi,

If you live in an area that experiences below zero temperatures then you would need proper fill right behind retaining wall from top to bottom for water/moisture drainage. This type of fill is called "non-frost susceptible" and these are materials that drain water freely are sand or clear stone. Then you would need to protect these materials with filter cloth or in a way to stop soils from infiltrating this area.

If you dig down behind the retaining wall and find fill that resemble clay, top soils or anything that feels mushy when wet then the retaining wall was not installed properly and it may shift during freezing and thawing cycles in weather climates. The taller the wall the more important a proper fill behind a retaining wall becomes.

I would ask your contractor via email any questions you may have about your install so that you have proof of conversation.

Just like Sean said in his reply, the most important thing is that it was installed properly and it looks good.

Best of luck.

Miguel.

To late now. Its your word against his. You should ask for proof of receipts at time of work as well as inspect the work before making payments

You may ask for an invoice or receipt showing the purchase of gravel and dirt from the supplier or quarry. If the contractor obtained the materials from your property without prior agreement, it's important to address this issue with them directly to ensure transparency and resolve any concerns regarding the use of your resources.

Stone and Top Soil isn't cheap; If the volume was large enough for you to notice, The contractor would be including that expense on the Invoice they charged you, which is a legitimate expense for that type of work. If that item isn't on the invoice, they used "free" material.
