I just installed a new ceiling fan in an empty ceiling box where a light fixture used to be. Wiring in the ceiling box consisted of 3 x black bundled, 3 x white bundled, single green, single orange (capped). New fan (GE Savana) has single black, single white, single green where black is labeled as 'motor'.
Connected the fan black to ceiling black, fan white to ceiling white, green to green and fan works including the integrated light by way of remote.
Existing fan/light (same as the new one installed) has been installed in the kitchen and was working fine. For reference, the ceiling wiring with that box was single red, 3 x bundled white, and single green. Fan was wired fan black to ceiling red, white to white and green to green.
The light switches on the wall were old and one didn't work (light fixture which wasn't present) so I bought new switches to replace the old. Once i tried wiring them, neither works to control either fan/light. Inside the wall the wiring is fed from top and bottom into the box with 1 x black, red, white, orange (capped) green coming from the top and 1 x black, 1 x white, 1 x green coming from the bottom. The 2 x black wires were capped and coupled as seen in the photo. Switches are Leviton 1451 single pole, which according to their installation instructions do not have a specific wiring requirement (i.e. brass screw and silver screw).
Photos have been attached for reference as a picture paints a thousand words as they say. Appreciate any expert advice/insight as I've reached my wits end and the extent of my limited wiring knowledge.
Thanks in advance, and I appreciate the time taken to assist
Hi Neil
You need to call an electrician and get that sorted out. I suspect you have tripped the breaker based on just what I am looking at.
Cheers
