Ceramic floor in basement

We are installing sleeper style sub floor in basement and want to put ceramic in bathroom. What do we need to apply to subfloor before tiles. We want to prevent movement and cracking tiles and grout. Do you recommend using a grout with silicone in it?

Hi Kelly,

Personally I would use a 1/4" cement board underlay between the wood subfloor and the tile. Some may argue with me that technically it's not necessary, but I find that cement board gives superior bonding adhesion. Then you can simply go with a regular mastic and grout application (depending on the tile used of course).
