When changing from an air conditioner to a forced air heat pump system, you should consider the following in your electrical panel:

1. Electrical Capacity: Ensure your electrical panel has the capacity to handle the additional load from the heat pump. Heat pumps typically require more power, so check if your panel has the necessary amperage.

2. Circuit Breakers: Make sure you have dedicated circuit breakers for the heat pump. It's crucial to have separate circuits to prevent overloading.

3. Wiring and Connections: Inspect the condition of the existing wiring and connections. Ensure they are in good shape and can handle the load without overheating.

4. Grounding: Verify that the panel is properly grounded. Grounding is essential for safety and system functionality.

5. Surge Protection: Consider installing surge protection devices to safeguard your heat pump system and other electronics from voltage spikes.

6. Electrical Codes: Comply with local electrical codes and regulations. It's vital to meet safety and legal requirements.

7. My Professional Assessment: Have a licensed electrician evaluate your electrical panel and make any necessary modifications. They can ensure that the panel is up to code and that the installation is safe and efficient.

8. Permits: Check if any permits are required for the electrical work. In many cases, electrical upgrades necessitate permits to ensure compliance with local building codes.

By addressing these considerations, you can ensure a smooth transition to a forced air heat pump system while maintaining the safety and efficiency of your electrical panel.

Just to add to the good posts already made, you may need to look at your overall capacity. While it is unlikely there will be an increased demand on your system, it should be looked at.
