Looking to replace carpet with solid hardwood in the living, family and office rooms on the main floor of a 23-year old home. Have a pet, a Jack Russell Terrier 7+ years.
What would be the best hardwood to withstand his pranks? Is Brazilian hardwood a good choice as this wood does not have layers and can withstand wear and tear better with a higher point on the hardness scale?
If so what are the color choices in this wood?
Thanks.
San
Hi San
I have had a great experience with Brazilian woods in particular the Jatoba series. You should focus on hardwoods such as oak, cherry, maple, elm and hickory . It would be usefull to to research engineered floors as they have come a long way in terms of finishing.

For the most part I agree with Glenn. However, I have found that a good quality laminate is not only more durable and resistant to scratches, dings and the like but often people cannot tell the difference between laminate and hardwood unless they really get down on the floor and look/feel. As much as I love hardwood, and I love dogs, I love my investment more! lol My dog was 125 pounds and i was glad I chose laminate.
Take care.
