Late 1976 home with plaster skim walls .. any levels of asbestos in this plaster

I have seen asbestos in homes up to late seventies in plaster and insulations. Not as common as 60's and in the 40's & 50's very common. Places of common asbestos use was plaster, some early wallboard, insulations and vinyl tile floorings. Concentrations were typically low in flooring and walls and quite high in insulations.. but by law it is illegal to disturb asbestos in buildings, it must be professionally removed. If you suspect you have asbestos it can easily be tested at many local organizations that do this and fairly inexpensive typically from $50 for 1 week return notification or from $100+ for 24-48/hr. I suggest this approach. If you do have asbestos you can cover new drywall over it, "if! it is not disturbed" in anyway. However if you want it gone or it is in bad shape you must have remediation and removal done. As it is a toxic substance removal is always recommended.
