I am lightly buffing out scratches on a pre~finished floor. What is the best finish to then apply?
Once you are completely satisfied with what you have done to either fill in and or re-stain over the scratch. If this is a new floor you or your contractor installed for you. Find out the " Sheen" level the is. Most new floors are a " Satin" Finish but sometimes they could be a " Gloss" Finish . Water based Urethane is fine for this as you can give it a few coats the same day. Put green painters tape "neatly and tightly "around the edge of the whole piece that is scratched. Even if the scratch is only in one corner , you must do that whole piece to make it look OK. It will not look that obvious if the Sheen is off a bit. prefinished flooring is done in a factory ,under certain conditions.
Good Luck
