I am replacing my tar and gravel with torch on. I was told the plywood has dry rot and all plywood should be replaced. The sq footage of my floor is appox 1400. It is a Vancouver special. I was told that it will cost $6000 extra on top of the cost of a new roof. Does that sound right to you?

Well I guess my first question would be, are they replacing all the plywood on the roof? If so, the cost could be anywhere from $4000.00 and up depending what is involved.

The best suggestion, would be to get some competitive quotes for the required work, at least that way you will know a price range for your geographical area.

Most roofers I know charge $75-150 per sheet to remove and replace. You have roughly 44 sheets to replace. So your roofer is on the high end but not completely unreasonable. It really depends on your local contractors. If your concerned about it, I would call another company and see what they charge.

Just remember roofing has one of the highest number of bad contractors, so do not go by price alone. It's way more important to have hired the right guy versus the cheap one.
