I'm doing a new house wiring and got a contractor to come see and they told me that it would cost 4$ a sq ft plus pot lights are extra. I'm wondering if thats high or low?
Seems low, but depends on the quality of their work and the materials they use. Bare bones code minimum might sneak by, but is the service entrance included? what is the price of pots installed? permit? warranty 2 years+? check their credentials thoroughly.
Get a detailed description of exactly what you get. an old style toggle switch is .90 each, a decora switch is $2. so get descriptions, dimmers, bath fan styles (under 90 cfm are junk), TV, Tel, cat 5, etc.
Robert is correct, that is a fairly low price. It's unfortunate that contractors need to low ball in order to win jobs. None the less remember in the renovations business you get what you pay for and considering the the dangers and important of having your electrical done properly make sure you do your due diligent.
