We are looking for a structural engineer to move an existing bearing wall in our basement in preparation for our basement renovation project. Presently the basement is partially finished and the bearing wall has been drywalled, however we would like to have this wall removed and replaced with the required number of joists or posts. The idea of hiring a professional for this gives us peace of mind and assurance that it will be planned and carried out according to standard.
We also would like the opportunity to understand the process to share in the planning and to facilitate and manage this preliminary project work. We would appreciate any quotes and advice on this project and could provide photos to better illustrate what is involved.
i own a war time house (1949) the basement is partially finished but i would like to have it completed.
I would like the right wall on the stairs removed to open up the basement.
I will need the area dry walled, approimately 500sq feet. i think the exterior walls may need to have insulation and vapour barrier.
I would like laminate floor and perhaps new carpet on stairs or laminte the stairs as well if possible.
thanks
I have a budget of 15,000. My basement is presently unfinished. Total size is 520 sq. ft. I would like four rooms, one washroom (not roughted-in), one bedroom, furnace/storage room and small bar room with wet bar wide enough for 4 bar stools with granite top. Please email online estimates to me only. This is for a house I am thinking of buying and would like an estimate.
Finishing of basement in newly built home (Aug 2006). To include bathroom (already roughed in) & furnace room (approx 10 x 10), living area with gas fireplace (approx 30 x 15), and office area (approx 10 x 15.) . Flooring in living area and office to be carpet, bathroom to be tile. Walls and ceiling to be drywall.
We have a half-finishes basement that needs some improvement on. The basement is currently covered under ceiling tile for 800sqft and we would like to remove them and install drywall. The walls are left with some terrible mudding work and needs to be fixed. For about the same 800sqft, we need to install spc floor (we will supply the floor). If within budget, we will like to add an additional washroom in one of the unfinished room.
Floor plan has been added. The REC room is where ceiling tiles need to be replaced with drywall. We need to add around 12 podlights to the same space. It is the same space where spc floor and baseboard needs to be installed. We will take care of the painting ourselves.
The storage room is where we are thinking to further divide and add a washroom in.
Would like to finish the basement. It is already insulated, but requires framing, drywall, flooring, ceiling, electrical, painting, baseboards and finishing touches. Would like to add a bathroom with shower, rough-in already there, close off laundry area, add double doors to bachelor apt and a small kitchenette. Looking for a complete quote on the job including labour and materials. Would like someone who can complete work within a month's timeframe, clean and professional.
I found this picture on TrustedPros and would be interested in completing a similar project for myself. Note that our basement is partially finished already.
Almost half of the basement has been done already (ceiling, walls and subfloor already done). We will finish the subfloor in all the areas not enclosed.
Things that needs to be done:
1. Will need to remove some walls for open concept like the picture above.
2. Will need to enclose the utilities, laundry, water softener area, closet/storage are (under the stair) and the provision for washroom (but will not do washroom for now)
3. Will put ceiling throughout the unfinished area
4. Lighting will be recessed lighting same as the picture above.
In summary, we only need to have the walls and ceiling completed. My husband will take care of the flooring.
We are interested in making our basement into a legal rental unit and require a quote on what is needed in terms of rentals for it to be legal and to code for renting in Ontario.
Some thing we believe will need quotes for are:
-currently open ceiling may need to be finished.
-ventilation for kitchenette area
-new sink for kitchenette area
-stairs (refinish and carpet)
-window height in bedroom
-new and separate thermostat
-vent for heating in bathroom
-vents to living room and bedroom for heating
-electrical panel addition for stove
Must have previous experience with rental units and code for Ontario rentals.
Our house is almost 50 yrs old and is in pretty good shape.
We took out the existing second bathroom in the basement to open up the area next to the furnace and garage door, with the intention of rebuilding a narrower bathroom in the same spot. The plumbing for the toilet will need to be moved a couple feet and the drain for the shower and sink.
There are a few more small concerns with laundry plumbing and lighting, but I think it's pretty straight forward.
I am most concerned about the quality of the renovation. I want a contractor that doesn't cut corners and communicates very well.
I have a semi-bungalow and need to re-vamp my basement. Would like to rearrange the space to take advantage of windows, and include a small rental space and need to look at a few plumbing needs. A short turn-around time would be great so I would like to hear from contractors who would be available to give quotes during the first week of July, and who would be able to get started almost right away.
Early 80's house, basement was partially renovated as a DIY project. Approximately 500 sq. ft floor space. Need assistance to complete the project. Main needs are trim carpentry (doorways, stairs, etc.), trim and finish custom bookshelf/entertainment center/cabinetry including finishing around an installed gas fireplace (custom mantle/storage solution).
I would prefer someone to come on site to review the current state of the basement, and discuss potential solutions for completing the project.
1) a designer is working on basement layout drawing and the drawing for the basement walk up; and will apply for permit from city of Kitchener
2) need contractors for basement walk up digging, window enlarging; and future basement contructions (framing, electric, plumbing, and then building rooms, bath, and kitchen)
I'm (the owner) looking to finish the basement (approx 700 sq feet) in my detached house in Kitchener (built 2012). I'm looking to have there a laundry room, bathroom (the plumbing is there), sauna (if not too expensive, not 100% sure), and a gym.
I am looking to finish my basement

--> Basement is with framing and insulated
I am looking to

--> Finish basement (With carpet and basic washroom)
Hello,
We are looking at having our basement finished. It is approx. 500 sqft. The house is about 7 years old and the basement is completely unfinished at the moment. We are not looking for anything to fancy, only a rec. room, Bathroom, laundry room and a storage room. Would like to have the basement done asap.
Thanks
Gord
Looking to finish our basement as a legal rental unit. We completed some work already (passed rough in electrical inspection, permits, drawings, plumbing) and are looking for someone to finish it. Major work needed is venting, appliance installation, flooring, light installation and some drywalling.
I am looking to have my basement finished. It is roughly 200 sq ft and has a rough-in for a 3pc washroom.
The washroom and laundry room will stay unfinished so only the hallway and rec room will need to be finished.
Looking for drywall ceiling and carpet flooring (with subflooring). Painting will not be needed as I plan on doing that myself.
The age of the house is 10 years.
The budget I am looking at is around $11,000.
Thank for you for the time to provide a quote.
The house is 15 year old. The basment was never finished, it does have a contrete floor and the top part of the room has installation with a plastic cover over it. The room already has some electrical outlets and ceiling lights. We are wanting to section off the laundry area into it's own room into the basement.
