We have a fully finished basement between 450 - 650 square feet. We are hoping to turn it into a one bedroom or bachelor legal apartment. We would need to put in a full bathroom and kitchen. We need to make a separate entrance, as well would like to put in a separate hydro meter. Our house is only 10 years old. We also would like to move our laundry to our second storey (from the basement) but still have laundry in the basement for our tenants. We are first time home owners and are new to renovations. Any help/information/quotes would be greatly appreciated!
This job is mainly removing carpet and installing vinyl plank flooring in a hallway and two room in the basement. However in the office there are bookshelves that are on top of the carpet and they are attached to the wall, I see no screws so I think it is glued. It might be glued to studs and not drywall, so I may need drywall added as well.
We have an older home with stone foundation. The home is built 1889. We would like to finish the basement. The tiles have been ripped out and the insulation & initial dry wall was completed by previous owners. Our family has grown faster than anticipated this year (twins!) and we are looking at options for expansion in the future.

I am looking to completely redo my finished basement in my split level detached home in Waterloo, making it more open concept and putting in at least one window (currently there are none). I am also considering moving the laundry from the basement onto the main floor. I would need assistance in designing the basement based on what is possible/not possible to do. In the basement there is currently a finished: hallway with closets, separate room. Unfinished: cold cellar, laundry room, furnace/storage room. Please contact me via email to schedule an appointment for a consult/price estimate.
Thanks!
We have a partially finished basement with rough-in for an additional washroom. We would like to have a one-piece shower stall installed in this area along with toilet, vanity, lighting and ventilation. We will need flooring done as well, either tile or suitable alternatives. The proposed bathroom has framing on one side, partial drywall on two sides and we will need framing & drywall to close out the room. There is easy access to electrical and water from the unfinished walls & ceiling - once this is done we'd like the ceiling finished with drywall as well. The house is in the Upper Beechwood area in Waterloo and it is approx 20 years old.
We are looking for a rough estimate online but would welcome you to visit the house in person on the weekend.
Thank you,
Paulus
I want to give my sister in Waterloo the gift of help to finish a project that is too big for her. She is renovating the bathroom and rec room in her basement after gutting them to repair water leaks. The bathroom is to the point where it is time to install tile in the shower and backsplash for the sink, and then for fixtures and final finishing to be done. The rec room needs to have the walls finished, flooring, and I'm not sure what the situation is with the ceiling. Are you trustworthy, skilled and flexible enough to get into the middle of this and help us finish this?
Finish a ~500 sqft basement, including putting up walls for a bathroom and guest room, basic fixtures in the bathroom (rough-in is already there), flooring (it's concrete in good condition now), drywall, lighting, and electrical.
Ideally work would be substantially completed during the period Aug 13 - 22, but we have some flexibility.
It's a walk-out basement, so we want to have the potential (in the future) to rent out the basement as a separate unit. If there are any special things that need to be done (ceiling made of a different type of material, etc) that we should do now, that would be good to know.
House was built in 1999, no problems found with the basement during recent home inspection.
We are interested in transforming our basement into a more functional and comfortable living space, and we believe that your expertise and experience could be a great fit for our needs.
The scope of the project may include, but is not limited to, the following tasks:
Redesigning the layout to optimize the use of space.
Adding or modifying partitions and walls.
Updating the flooring, lighting
Installing or upgrading the electrical, plumbing
Creating a new room, a mini kitchen and changing the layout of a washroom.
To create a new unit in the basement of an existing (>5yr) single family home located in an R1 zone (2nd unit is allowed). The unit already has a separate entrance, 2 bedrooms and a bathroom. It needs a shower, kitchen and an egress window along with a living room. Fire separation also needs to be completed along with new paint, new floor, etc.
My basement is around 600 sf with walk-out. My original plan was do it all by myself and actually I am about to finish the whole framing and box work. I have purchased all interior doors and plan to buy wires/boxes/fixtures/switches etc in the near future. I would love to continue finishing the rest of the work howewer i realize this may take me a few more months (if not years) long. That's why I am here :)
Basically the basement would have a bathroom, a small study room and open area for recreation - again the framing is done. I am not looking for luxury reno but definitely quality work. Budget is another important factor in my consideration.
if you live in Waterloo, Kitchener or Cambridge,
and can finish the rest of my basement in 3 - 6 weeks' timeframe (June - July)
and can get the work done within $10k budget (labour+materials+others)
then please reply to me. Thanks!
We are in a 10 year old open concept home and we have a few projects in mind. The first project is to take the family room and close it into a den, including replacing the existing carpet with laminate flooring.
The preferred plan is to remove an oak railing that divides the kitchen from the family room, replace it with a wall and install a pocket door to close the room. This would require the building of about a 7 foot wall, using 2x6 studs.
This will also require some wiring work to be done to create a couple of new electrical outlets as well and possibly a phone jack.
Phase 2 would be to do counter renovations in kitchen, removing breakfast bar and associated cupboards and moving under counter dishwasher to a different location. A portion of existing counter top may need to be replaced.
Phase 3 would included the closing of a 6 foot wide opening from the kitchen to the great room with french doors (24 inch width).
