Moves are very stressful, especially when you move from a city where not that many companies travel to. I moved from Grande Prairie, AB to Miami, FL and made lots of research and there were very few companies were able to make the move and Canadian National was one of them and had the best price among those others. They assisted with customs and clearance and followed up when the shipment was ready to cross. The move was so easy that I didn't even notice it how it passed. Movers were very polite, customer service was great and very accurate with the details and their estimates. They sent me a list of inventory to fill out and gave me a very accurate estimate. After adding a few more items, we were surprised to find out that the actual cost was within $181.00 from original quote. Delivery was done in about 5 weeks from the pickup. Very happy with the service and recommended Canadian National Van Lines already to everyone I know! Thanks guys!
Read the reviews on here about these guys, they're all the same for a reason. Absolutely TERRIBLE. DO NOT USE THEM.
I have a pretty similar story as the rest: I moved from AB to BC. They offered me a stellar quote and really leaned on their BBB accreditation. So I felt totally safe being a young girl moving to another province alone using them.
They picked up my stuff November 11th and I was told it would arrive between November 27th and December 2nd. When the week arrived and I hadn't heard anything I called my representative, Abigail (who, as previously mentioned on here, is TERRIBLE at communication and customer service. She is lazy with a horrendous bedside manner and should not have a job in customer service). She just said to call the BC office. I call them and they make me call Toronto. No answer. I spent 2 weeks trying to track down my things. I was told in my quote that I would be charged about $1160 for 1000lbs. I figured I had 2000lbs so I figured my bill would be about $2100. I was given a total of $3300. When I contacted Abigail, she tried to tell me I moved 4300lbs but she would send me a copy of my scale ticket to prove it. All of my items except a 117lb bed frame, a Queen mattress and 20 small boxes fit into a 5×10 storage unit so I found this hard to believe. She told me I was only charged for the weight of my things plus packing supplies. When the movers finally showed, I was greeted by 3 very rude men who first tried to charge me $200 to use the stairs. Odd-I had the exact same amount of stairs at my pickup location and wasn't charged a fee to use them. They didn't have a scale ticket. Then when we went to put the rest of my items into a storage unit, the movers assured me it would fit into the unit. When it almost didn't fit, they tried to tell me it was going to be a few hundred dollars to unload the unit and move it to a new one...literally across a 5ft hallway. When I called their office about it, the movers got mad at me and proceeded to toss my things into the unit, loading it so that it was a hazard to access. When the unit was unloaded a month later, I used a different company who informed me that not only was I over-charged by 1000lbs (they took my stuff to a scale) but that several of their charges were scams and my stuff has been mishandled.
CNVL disassembled my bed without my permission. It was unable to be put back together (see images). My dresser has a crack down the center of the frame making it useless. My tv's were stored face-down on metal, they are broken. My drinking glasses are broken (I packed them very well), I am missing the footboard for a bed making it useless as well as my broom, mop, and several other items. I had a ton of liquor as I am a rep and they stole several bottles from me (I took inventory as it belongs to my employer). They also charged me $90 for a wardrobe box, a box they claim to use to load smaller boxes to save space. They filled it with regular size boxes (see images) but hand loaded my small boxes (I had at least 20 of these smaller boxes that would have actually fit into that box which is a testament to the stupidity and laziness of these people).
The best part? The things I have are items I got after I was victim of a huge apartment fire. All of it brand new and I worked very hard for it, completely destroyed by the mishandling of my stuff by BBB accredited "professionals". And just like everyone else on here, they offered me the slap in the face of $55 to pay for my things because "sometimes things are damaged in transportation".
RUN FOR THE HILLS from these guys. Con-artists and scammers. I guarantee the only positive comments on here are from people who work for the company because too many people on here have the exact same story for them to be anything but consistent let-downs. I hope people heed the advice on here because I have been devistated for about a month now.
If I could I would give CNVL a negative star rating. Stay away!!
When looking for a moving company I got quotes from many different competitors. CNVL talked a good game. They are very friendly and professional when emailing and gave me a good feeling about the company. After deciding to use CNVL, I asked if they would meet competitors pricing. They responded that they would. I sent 4 different competitor quotes but CNVL would not match as they said they where a better rated company so charged more. I figured ok, they must be good. Then on the moving day I got a call from a mover, caller display said it was RAM movers and that they were confirming the address for the CNVL move. I wrote CNVL and asked why RAM was doing the move - they said RAM was their partner company. So I sent CNVL a quote from RAM that was a much better price than CNVL. They responded aggressively that ‘CNVL is taking the contract and the price is SET!! We will not change it. If you want to cancel, tell us now’. Meanwhile they had waited to respond until the movers had half loaded the truck with my stuff - I was moving across the country and on a schedule, I couldn’t stop the move, they had me in their pocket and they knew it.
The movers seemed to do a good job. They specifically wrapped up my high quality barka lounger, very nice large clock, a very nice tower light and my recently purchased lawn mower in black plastic wrap. I met them a the scale before and after loading the truck. It seems to go pretty well. They put my belongings into storage.
They left with my stuff the end of July. We then travelled to Ontario, started my new job and lived out of our holiday Trailer until we found a house. We bought the house but had to wait until oct to move in. The movers arrived the first week of oct, as scheduled. The first thing the mover made me do was sign the sheet that everything had arrived safe and sound. My mistake - please don’t sign anything until you are sure everything is there. CNVL will take advantage and make you pay. They unloaded the truck - I had a lot of stuff. Very hard to keep track of everything as it is coming off the truck. I watched one of the movers kick a shelf of the truck - it broke, he did not apologize. They were very grumpy by the time the truck was empty. Two of our kitchen boxes that were labeled fragile were smashed. Many of our boxes and bins were ripped, dented and collapsed. Almost every piece of furniture was scratched and broken, we found more broken pieces here and there throughout our boxes. The backs of two of our armours were ripped off. Broken handles on my electric tools, broken wheel on my tool chest, missing latch and handle on the same. Broken and missing legs on dressers and armours.
AND all the items that were nicely wrapped in black wrap (possibly marked?) suspiciously missing. Every. One. Of. Them!
After this they asked me to submit a claim - they then took a full 10 weeks to get back to me. They claimed the deductible was more than the claim but out of the goodness of their hearts they would pay me $55.
A terrible moving company - stay away, and please tell everyone you know to stay away.
They will NOT do a good job moving - it’s not even them doing the moving!
They will NOT give you a good OR competitive price.
They will NOT try and find missing items or make any concessions if your items are ‘lost’.
Do NOT trust a word they say!!
Worst company ever!! Refusing to provide me with a weigh scale ticket and basing the cost on a guess of what my items weigh. Abigail is a con a liar and most ignorant person to deal with. She ignores calls and emails and clearly lied to me when booking my move. Stay clear of this company. I have moved several times across Canada and know my approximate weight of my items as I was provided weight scale tickets in the past. Considering I gave a long list of items away preparing for this move I find it rather odd my belongings weigh more now than before!! Liars, scammers!! I see this going to court as there has been no resolution here! Funny they don't even know their own contract that clearly states that a scale ticket is to be provided!
It was hard for me to choose a moving company at first. Canadian National was recommended to us through a friend that did a move with them in July and was also very happy. We had our items picked up in Vancouver and the stuff went to storage for a few months. Once we were ready we had to contact the local dispatch and had the items scheduled for delivery. We didn’t have to wait long for out items once we were ready to accept them. Abigail and Hanna were the 2 main people that I deal with. The crew was amazing in BC – Joe and Sonny were amazing and so welcome. At the delivery time the crew was large (3-4 guys) and it went very quickly. They were in an out.
They did end up forgetting one table base but I spoke to the delivery driver and he promised to follow up. He called me first thing next morning and it was dropped off the next afternoon. He even set it up for me for no extra charge for forgetting it the day before.
The quote was very reasonable and we paid very close to the original quote + taxes which I was very impressed with. I am definitely recommending them to anyone. We have now have 2 family members who were happy with the service.
Do not trust this company!
We moved, sales person was very friendly, gave us a great quote, moved, and that is when the disappointments started.
- Many items missing
- They won't return calls
- big and small items missing... no one seems to care enough to call or follow up regarding these items.
- we found out today that our bags have been opened and things are missing.
- movers scratched floors and walls at house
- many items scratched and/or broken
How can a business like yours be around today. I'm not sure.
One star is too many for this company! AVOID THEM! They got us with a lower quote, then after signing with them, our bill went up by $1100. The guys arrived on the moving date and seemed more concerned with how many boxes of theirs they could use. Charged 25$ per box. We didn't know beforehand that our cushions had to be packed. They were so reckless with our things and we didn't know the extent of it until our stuff arrived in Calgary. We had to sign before we could get our stuff off the truck that everything was good...without even seeing it. They broke our TV, speakers, boxes were crushed, clocks, dishes. We submitted a claim, it took 6 weeks to come back and they just offered us $35 for damaging our things. DO NOT BOOK WITH THIS COMPANY!!!
Don't use this company. They don't even deserve one star. They seem to have good reviews when we found it, however the reality is a different story. I wish we read the CBC news below before we hired this company.
We hired this company to move our stuff from AB to BC. First of all, it took us a number of phone calls for the mover to show up. They told us that they would call the day before to let us know the time slot the movers would show up, however they never called. Second of all, it took more than a month to get our stuff delivered even though they told us 2 - 7 business days when we contracted them. The worst thing about this company is that they cannot be trusted. Every time we called they told us different delivery dates. The first time I spoke to that lady (so call operation manager), she kept arguing with me that they did nothing wrong, even though they never acted according to their words. It was so difficult talking to her. When I said that I would like to make a compliant to someone above you, she told me that there is no one above her, she is the boss. OMG! I later found out that she is just an employee, she just wouldn't let me talk to the owners. Anyway, we called every day while waiting, and I finally had to beg her (the so called operation manager) to have our stuff delivered. Third of all, we don't know how much our stuff actually weight. They just send us a bill to pay. They don't allow you to see the scale unless you make the request at the time of signing the contract (according to the operation manager, who didn't explain this point at all when we contracted them, so don't assume so). Lastly, when they want your business, they call you or pick up your phone right away. Once they take your stuff away, they avoid your phone calls, so it is really frustrating when you have to leave messages every time your call or expect to hear back from someone about where your stuff are. This company should be regulated! Don't use this company if you don't want the same kind of frustrations we had.
We would definitely recommend them. We researched a few companies and selected this one because they had the best reviews.
We moved a 2 bedroom from Vancouver, BC to Brampton,ON. We didn't have a destination address when we booked them so we took advantage of their storage facility in Toronto. They were quick to respond and very accommodating when we had to change our pick up date at the last minute. We packed most things ourselves except for a few big items (i.e: tables, the mattress, etc...). The movers took care of those when they arrived.
The pick up went well...the movers arrived about 30 minutes late. They were very friendly and professional and it took them about 40 minutes to pack our big items and put everything in the truck. A week and a half later they called us to inform us that our items would arrive soon and to confirm that we still wanted them to be stored... which we did.
When we had a delivery address we called them back and they delivered it within a few days. The drop off also went well and was complete in about 30 minutes. The movers even placed our big items where we wanted them (upstairs) so we didn't have to do it ourselves.
Overall everything went well. We are still unpacking and have found a few broken dishes but we think it could have to do with our packing method.
Based on this experience, I would definitely go with them again.
