The company was taken over from it’s original founders Steve Baker and Gabe Valente, in 2015, by Steve’s two children James and Shannon. It’s not the same as it once was with costumer service and quality of workmanship.
Over priced, very unprofessional and extremely difficult to communicate with working out mistakes and imperfections made by their installers.
It started out with, 1 installer showing up instead of 2. Now the job becomes a 2 day project. Lost wages for me having to take another day off work to let the installers in.
The 2 entry doors brought to be installed come damaged. Obviously, I was all over the installer about it, his comment, it happens all time, Heritage does not inspect the doors before sending them out. I was told by James Baker, the doors are covered under warranty but will take 8 weeks to be replaced. The doors should never have been installed damaged. My bad on this for not allowing.
James, demanded I pay for the work order that was to completed, before his installers left day 2, I agreed, obviously upset and not knowing my legal rights I paid.
Workmanship and attention to detail by Heritage installers, one thing after another that needed to be repaired or overlooked. I found out that the installers are contracted by Heritage, this is done so if there is an issue or your not happy Heritage try’s their best to avoid responsibility. They work in pairs some good some bad, no idea on what experience they have. The evidence left at my house speaks for the pair they sent.
I had the workers come back and try and fix the door they installed that would not close properly. it was fixed but then a huge gap at the bottom was created, causing a wind draft coming into the house. Before the worker left that day he was nice enough to leave a big pile of saw dust on my side walk, caulking lids and door material.
Their communication to make this negative to a positive is non existent. I had words that turned into a yelling match with James Baker over all my inconveniences and frustration with Heritage. They got their money as what the contract said. I’m left with 2 damaged doors, window latch not fixed, a door that isn’t installed properly for a wind draft to enter and his installer leaving wasted door material and sawdust all over my front steps and lawn.
London Police needed to be called and now I need to pay for a lawyer and take Heritage to small claims court.
All my wife and I, wanted was new doors and repaired window. We choose Heritage, because a friend and family member recommended them to us. Imagine how they feel? Don’t make the same mistake people. If it happened me and my wife, it can just as easily happen to you. Don’t be fooled by the consumer choice award, this is a company that’s trying to grow big to fast and has forgotten about all the little things that will get it there just not overnight. 1990, is when it first started business, Steve’s son and daughter will have it bankrupt within 10 years if they continue this route.
Shop around and do yourself a favour, with not having the inconveniences, frustration, disappointment and stress.
My pictures posted are evidence of the contracted job with Heritage Window and Doors. My review is 100% accurate. I will leave this review up until I’m told to take it down by my lawyer. I challenge Heritage to seek legal assistance and start a defamation claim, if they feel differently or have supporting evidence that it is not truthful. I will gladly resolve this in small claims court if asked.
Thank you for reading.
At Heritage Renovations we strive to provide the best end to end experience for every customer, which is one of the reasons we have won the Consumer Choice Award every year. We perform thousands of installations per year and rarely there are minor issues that we correct immediately for our customers and are treated with the highest priority by our company.
Your review is untruthful.
On the day of your installation one installer was ill. Rather than postponing the entire installation the morning it was scheduled to begin we chose to send one installer. It was our hope that we would be able to remain on track with the timeline but we ran slightly over and returned the following morning and were finished by 10 am. We did this with your best interests in mind since you had already taken the day off work.
Your door slabs had a small dent from the manufacturer which is covered 100% under warranty. We were able to continue with the door system installation and these are currently properly installed and fully operational at your home. The slab is a separate component that is easily changed out when the new component arrives under warranty. We are an installation company and do not manufacturer the product. We keep everything wrapped until installation to ensure it is protected. We have less than 1% instances of damaged product and we apologize that this occurred in your case. We empathize with this inconvenience and ordered your replacement door slabs immediately as a rush.
We like to leave each home as clean as when we arrived and there was approximately one handful of saw dust left on your property. This is a renovation where we are performing construction work on your home and sometimes there are remnants of saw dust remaining even though the bulk is cleaned up.
We pride ourselves on having the best installers in the business and our installers have between 15-30 years experience. Our installers install windows and doors for us all day, every day and they are experts at what they do none of our installers are bad . As an owner, I would never install anything or have an installer employed by us that I wouldn t want working in my own home. Heritage Renovations has never avoided responsibility for anything. We are an integrity based business and have even been nominated for the Better Business Bureau Integrity Award.
During your installation there was a call with one of the owners of the company. A plan was created with your wife and we offered to treat you to a nice dinner as a token of our thanks for your patience with the damaged product.
After this plan was set in motion you escalated to physical and property threats. We never yelled at you and have all conversations recorded. You contacted us 30 times and threatened to come to our office and hurt our employees. You stated that you have a criminal background and we would soon find out who we were dealing with. You edited a picture of the owner s head with a threatening message. You became aware of the owner s home address and threated to go there. The police had to be called and your behaviour was deemed criminal. An officer spoke with you and your family on three separate occasions. We declined to press charges although we had every right to proceed.
Again, I apologize that you had a small dent the size of the tip of my fingernail on your door. I arranged with your wife to replace a window crank of a window we did not install as a favour. The appointment was booked and the warranty order was placed. You have no wind draft on your door. The product on our contract was installed fully and completely.
Your wife stated that she was embarrassed and had asked you repeatedly to remove your post. While she was understandably disappointed about the warranty issue (as were we) she understood.
While we strive for perfection, circumstances outside of our control can arise and we make a plan to create the best outcome possible. I am proud of our work.
Shannon and Jay run an exceptional home reno business. The North Star windows I purchased were installed on time, in a timely fashion, and the crews cleaned up well after themselves. They provided a detailed written quote after spending time with us at home, and offer the option of paying by e-transfer for maximum convenience.
If you're upgrading a truly heritage home I highly recommend that you see Shannon and Jay at the showroom. They have a lot of knowledge about the technological advances which have shaped modern windows and doors, and that is hard to covey in brochures, websites, dimensions, and e-mails. In some cases, if you ask ahead of time, they will even go above and beyond to see you after their already industry-leading opening hours.
I normally do not write reviews but feel that I need to make people aware of our dealings with Heritage Renovations. First of all I have no problem with the product. Our problem stems from the lies in order to make the sale and the poor customer service. My wife and I decided to replace both our front double doors and transom along with the back french doors. Also to be installed was the new door handle hardware. First of all this was not a cheap renovation but found their price to be within reason. We dealt with one of the sales persons in August 2018 and was assured that the work would be completed by the end of October 2018. A down payment was placed for the work to be provided. We were aware that the government had been running a energy efficient program and was assured by the salesperson that this would not effect the installation date. When October came around and we had not heard from Heritage we called and ended up dropping into the showroom. We were advised that they were back logged due to the the government initiative and that the work could not be completed till later in the fall. Heritage advised us that the salesperson should have been aware that the installation could not be completed in October. It should be noted that the salesperson apparently does not work for Heritage anymore. As it turned out the installation was not completed until February 2019. The work was completed by mid evening in the dark in the middle of winter. A check of the door using a flash light did not appear to have any issues. It was not until March that we noticed some slight dents and paint chips underneath one of the front door handles, which can only be seen when looking at the door from an angle. After several calls including those that were not returned I attended Heritage and spoke to the General Manager. I was advised to email him pictures of the damage, which I did and for several weeks did not receive any response. I again attended Heritage and was advised that the damage was caused by us and not by his installers. It was suggested that the damage was possibly caused by a key. It should be noted that the front doors are not our main entrance into the house due to a alarm system etc. and that the only time a key was used in any of those doors was the day when the installation was conducted to make sure the locks were keyed properly. I felt insulted that we were being blamed for the damage. I have since had a door installer and a painter come out to look at the door in question and both are 100 % in agreement that the damage was caused by the installation of the door hardware. The General Manager indicated that the only way to repair the door was to replace the one double door, which he made clear was not an option. The independent door installer and painter both indicted that the door would have to be replaced to correct the problem and were not surprised that Heritage would not take responsibility for the damage.
Bottom line is that Heritage is there to make a profit and it is easier to blame the customer then lose money on their own mistakes.
We had 8 windows installed last year. They look great! We noticed a big improvement with reduced condensation. We liked it so much we're getting more this year. They did a professional job installing and cleaned up afterward. Good job!
Terrific company to deal with. Very knowledgeable throughout the sales process and provided lots of information. The installation was fast and looks amazing plus I can’t believe how much warmer my home is this winter. I would recommend them to anyone!
I will begin this with the positives. This started well as the new entrance door and screen door were delivered and installed in a timely manner and I do need to be clear that through all of this my experience with the service techs have been good and they have all been courteous and accommodating. I advise them all to seek employment with a more reputable organization than Heritage Renovations as the business practices here will certainly spell the end before long I imagine. My issues began with manufacturers defects on both the entrance and the screen door, culminating with the main reason for my complaint. My entrance door has a small window and it is framed in by a "trim ring". This ring has warped, been replaced and warped again with the reason given being heat. It should be said that during the sales process when we were discussing door colour we were assured that we would have no concerns choosing a black door and why should we doubt that as there are many black entrance doors everywhere I go. Anyway the proposed solution now is an aluminum trim ring which I was told should solve the issue but I was going to have to pay "half" of the cost. This was an issue as this is a manufacturer issue and is happening through no fault of mine. During this conversation with James( he says he is the owner at Heritage ) he explained that the manufacturer is charging them so we will need to share the expense. I replied that it was unfortunate that the manufacturer Gentek was not supporting their dealer or standing behind their product and that at the end of the day Heritage is the face to the customer of any manufacturer they sell products on behalf of so it will ultimately relfect on them. Following this conversation I approached the manufacturer Gentek with my concerns and relayed them to person at the desk at their London office that explained she would email the customer service person and someone would be in touch in a few days. This was about a month ago and nothing so far. Meanwhile I have the techs here to install today and they asked me for payment before they can do the work. I tell them I have no problem paying but it won't be until after the work is done and I am satisfied. They get on the phone to James and he tells them to leave. I have now reached the last of my patience with this bush league operator and we have a heated discussion revolving around the fact that through all of this experience he now has expectation for me to pay in advance for work that has not been done yet. This ends with James hanging up on me. At this point I really have no choice but to pay up front for this or live with a warped substandard product. Through all this I should mention that there has been an ongoing screen door issue which James also committed to sending a new screen roller mechanism to resolve. Subsequent to our heated conversation it seems he has also backtracked on that and the tech advised me that I now need to deal with the manufacturer of the screen door for resolution. In a followup call to James to inquire about this sudden change he was"unavailable". It seems he is a coward as well as a very poor businessman. Based on my experience my advice to anyone in the London and surrounding area shopping for entrance or screen doors steer far away from Heritage Renovations and Gentek doors in general. It pains me to say this as I prefer to support local businesses but it is not advised in the case of the two companies.
