Gary was incredibly knowledgeable and went above and beyond with the inspection. We were very grateful for his expertise and his ability to identify problems we didn't even know could exist! He is pure quality and I would highly recommend his services.
Many thanks Ayla; I appreciate you taking the time to review your experience with us.
Kind regards,
Gary
Gary went over and beyond for my husband and I in inspecting our home for repairs needed. Not only did we get a very thorough report with photos, but Gary was also able to provide us with information on next steps, home warranty and other details that went over and beyond other companies. I would highly recommend Sherlock Homes Inspectors to anyone looking for a professional, detail oriented, and highly experienced inspection.
We hired Gary as a recommendation and we are so glad we did. Due to a snow storm in Calgary we were unable to review his finding in person but he called and gave us a very in depth overview and answered all our questions. After a few days he called back to make sure we made it into town OK as we had a blow out on HWY2 and asked if we had any questions.
Gary's report is by far the best report I have ever seen and he was a pleasure to work with.
I would highly recommend him.
Hi Ivan,
I appreciate you taking the time to review the Home Inspection experience, together with the report. That first snowfall in Calgary (see image - Crowchild North) was huge and a staggering 4 hour drive to the property; a drive which normally takes 40 to 45 minutes. That said, compared to a blow out on highway 2 in that weather, doesn't even compare. You were very lucky indeed and it was a miracle that no-one was injured.
'Good Luck' in your new home.
Regards
Gary
There are three reasons why I would have no hesitation in recommending Gary to anyone intending to engage a home inspector. These are:
1. His willingness to take the time to share his observations during an inspection. Gary would highlight potential issues and offer solutions that, in our case, put our minds at rest.
2. His report was thorough, well presented and clear. The accompanying pictures were particularly helpful. His communication skills in general are very good.
3. Throughout the process, he sought to establish a working rapport, from the time he was approached to do the work until the final submission of the report. This contributed to a positive experience.
All in all, this was a job well done. Thanks, Gary.
Gary was incredibly flexible - as we had a bit of a crazy schedule to work around. He was easy to reach when we had to adjust times, and was amazingly accommodating! Through out the inspection he carefully explained things and patiently answered our questions. We have dealt with other inspectors in the past who have whipped through the house and while the inspection may have been completely accurate, we felt as though we were being a pain asking questions as the inspector was definitely rushed. Dealing with Gary was completely the opposite. He took us through the inspection and was extremely thorough. This was a house that had lots of renovations to do and he gave us very detailed information about the house as well as shared his opinion (as a good friend or member of the family would do). He went above and beyond in every way, including contacting us well after we had received our report to let us know about a product on the market that could help us remedy one of the concerns we had about the house. Gary was instrumental in helping us make the decision of whether or not we wanted to go through with this purchase and we are writing because we want to share with others the excellent service he gave to us. Hopefully this is our last home purchase, but if not, we will definitely seek Gary's services again.
Gary is very professional and thorough. It was a pleasure to deal with him on two occasions. He explains each step with you and will answer any and all questions you have. He makes the home inspection process very understandable. His written report and photos are very detailed and informative.
Hi Shirley,
Thank you for your review. It was nice meeting you both and being part of your journey from another province to Alberta. I'm glad we were able to eventually find you a nice home - minus the 'Gas Leak' of course! :-)
'Good Luck!'
Gary
The home inspection provided by Gary was detailed and thorough. We would recommend Gary to anyone looking for a "top notch" home inspector who is experienced and detailed. Not only did he provide us with a well written and detailed inspection report, but he also answered numerous questions for us before and during the inspection. His level of service was excellent. He helped us to really understand all aspects of the home we were purchasing including questions we should be asking during the home purchase process. If you want someone who is experienced, knowledgeable and detailed and who will conduct a home inspection that you can really trust, then hire Gary.
Hi Vern & Kaye,
Thank you for your review and comments. It was a pleasure meeting you both and 'Good Luck' in your new home; it really is a superb spot and home!

Gary
We used Gary Rose at Sherlock Homes Inspectors for multiple pre-possession inspections of a new home that we built and we are tremendously happy that we did. I don’t normally write online reviews, for a number of reasons. However, the exceptional job that Gary did really demanded one.
There is no doubt that Gary Rose is eminently qualified – his long list of technical qualifications and accomplishments speak for themselves. However, it is his integrity, attention to detail, and the genuine support that he gave us that set him apart in our eyes. It was really great to find someone that shared our views on quality and who was a trusted partner in a very stressful process.
He did a fantastic job in his inspections – helping to identify many items that needed remediation – and took a lot of time to explain things in a way that someone without any construction experience can understand. He also bent over backwards to accommodate requests (e.g. last minute scheduling), even when his personal commitments would have made it easy for him to find a reason not to. He exemplifies what it means to be a trusted professional.
Gary really should charge more for his services because the peace of mind he provides is priceless. Not only will we continue to use Gary throughout the post-possession inspection schedule of our new home (and beyond) but Gary will also be inspecting homes for our loved ones in the near future.
Hi Mark,
Thank you for your review and comments, it is much appreciated.
The attitude of senior site management, of the Okotoks new home developer, leaves a lot to be desired. Their lack of accountability, responsibility and continual excuses to address issues, created by them, is incredible!
The fact that drywall is not square and there s a very noticeable bulge in the main ceiling area of the lounge due to their poor planning and building practises and that the Radon system is not installed to current standards, to then be told by them that this is all within the tolerances and acceptable by the Alberta building code, this is in addition to the issues discovered and repairs carried out so far, is beyond belief!
It never ceases to amaze me, how New Home Developers and their constant lack of accountability, quality and standards, are not stated in their glossy sales brochure at the point of sale; but then to be open, honest and transparent, about rectifying future issues, they d never sell a property!
Let me know if I can be of further assistance.
Gary Rose CMI CGLI.
In the last year I have hired three different home inspectors to inspect different houses.
Gary Rose was without doubt the best. Why? The report. Gary's report did not have 'filler', by that I mean advertising and general comments not specifically related to the particular house. Gary's report is organized so it's easy to read. It begins with a two page summary of the important items. On top of that Gary is personable, friendly and patient. The 'patient' is important because when you accompany him on the inspection he takes all the time you need in explaining the whys and whats of items so you have a good understanding. He 'smiles'. So you actually enjoy joining him on the inspection.

Gary has a very calm courteous personality which helped me tremendously while taking his training course. The wealth of knowledge he shared during his training program gave me the confidence I needed to move forward in my training and ultimately complete my test inspection. I was very impressed from the initial phone conversation to the ongoing emails after completing his program, thank you Gary!
Hi Joshua,
Many thanks for your comments. Your ability, eagerness and practical approach to Home Inspection is superb! I have no doubt you'll become a great inspector!
Good Luck!
Gary
