I noticed basement carpet ( adjacent to basement shower stand) is little wet. I have moved into the house for 2 years but never used that shower till my folks are here for a visit a month ago, I don't know when did the leak starts but should not be too long. The shower stall is like those one without tiles, I can't think of a reason why it would leak, I did noticed the shower door there are 2 open from both sides aren't that good, they don't close well, water does splash to the floor but again very small amount. I am going to stop using the shower and see if the carpet would dry out soon.
My concern is I am not going to stop using the shower stall because there might be a leak but I don't know where is the source and who should I seek help from? Renovation company, plumber, or? Can someone give me some professional opinions?
Thanks.
I think I understand that it is not a tiled shower. Assuming it is acrylic, there are a couple of options - a one piece which has very little chance of failure besides blatant damage (crack or hole) and a renovator style which is multiple pieces with joints. Some of these knock down units are pretty poor in quality and even properly installed can be troublesome if they rely on caulking to seal them up. If the problem is not the stall, the drain could be another spot of failure. Sometimes poorly supported, and the weight of standing on the floor gives way for moisture to weep through an improperly sealed drain. Lastly, it's possible that the valve leaks behind the stall only when running - a solder joint may have failed or something like that.
A good renovator can help assess the leak and even potentially do the plumbing repair to get you fixed up. Conversely, a handy service plumber can do the same. General rule of thumb when digging into these things is start small and only get bigger as required. If you can avoid using it and do some investigating on it yourself, that may be beneficial to whomever you hire to solve the problem.
Good luck!
Thank you Brent, that is very informative. May not be appropriate question for you since we are not even in the same city, but do you know any reliable reno companies in my city?
Thanks.
I think I am with Brent on this one, Renovation companies can assess with ease as well as a good plumber. The matter is defining the cause which can be prompt or extend depending on the situation. The Logical thing is to think of a plumbing repair and go from there.
All the best!
Hello with this type of shower usually it the caulking around the base that is dry out and needs to be replace also around the door seal.
Try lifting the carpet up and testing the shower with you outside of the shower check around the door and see if you can see water.
