I would like to install a toilet in my basement. The main stack which is vented and the main toilet is hooked into, is where I plan to put it. I am only installing a toilet, no sink. Do I require a permit? The toilet will not be sitting on the floor it will be on a raised platform. I have already found the codes for height and structure requirements.

In most municipalities, a permit is required to add any additional plumbing fixtures.

The reason is to make sure that the system can handle the additional load. and that is is done properly.

Of course, many people do this type of work without permits and have no issues. If you do have a problem and have to get a permit after the work is already completed, they might just charge extra for the permit. There is a small chance they might tell you that it is not allowed under your zoning bylaws. So I would check those first.

Hello, Greetings

In most municipalities, a permit is required to add any additional plumbing fixtures.

Different Types of Installation Applications Below:

a) Regular Toilets Installation

b) Saniflo Toilet Installation

c) Bidet Toilet Installation

If you add any new plumbing or electrical or replace any plumbing and/or electrical wiring, you will be required to get a permit. The Ontario Building Code rules clearly state the reasoning behind the regulation in regard to safety and health standards.

Raised platform is amateur time and not to code, you can hook into the stack but you must dig it out and add a proper T. If you sell the home it will fail. Any real plumber will tell you this. That being said, you only require a permit if you are developing a bathroom. Permits guarantee you are hiring a professional.
