We are looking now to add a double garage with a bedroom behind it at our house in Caledon.

What is the typical cost per square foot for a typical attached garage? What is the typical cost per square foot of a finished room?

It would be on a concrete slab.

A very basic way to estimate the cost of building a detached garage is to simply apply a typical average per square foot construction of $80 - $100. If there are complications or you prefer top quality materials and components the price can easily will go up. This can serve as a very rough basis.

Everything will depend on the materials prices and labor expenses. Installation of cement siding and a slate roof might double the cost in comparison with vinyl siding and an asphalt shingles roof. If it is an attached garage and house design will require matching in style, costs of construction will increase as well.

The minimum recommended size of a 2-car garage is approximately 20 ft. wide and 20 ft. deep. When considering your 2-car garage design wishes, go bigger when possible. 22 X 22 is comfortable and 24 X 24 gives you some breathing space.
