Cost of refinishing hardwood floor

How much do you think it would cost to sand, stain and refinish hardwood flooring throughout the main level of the home? It's about 650 - 700 square feet of hardwood plus a staircase to the basement.

Off the top of my head it would be approximately $4000 with material.

$3000-$5000, depending on current condition and age; in addition to materials.

700 ft @ $5.00 a ft and usually $1500 or so to sand and stain a staircase.
