In our basement, we are looking into redoing the floors. Right now there is linoleum in 2 of the rooms and A cheaper quality laminate in the extra bedroom and the floors are very cold in winter. As far as we know, underneath there is a floating floor then the concrete slab and we believe there has been some movement in the slab in some areas. Overall it's approximately 500 square feet and we would like a better quality engineered hardwood floor. How much do u think it would cost to level the concreate, and add engineered hardwood with some kind of insulation between the flooring and the concrete?

For your particular application, I would use the pro core panels on your basement floor. They come in 2x2 and 2x4 panels. It allows water to flow underneath and provides a barrier between the concrete and finished floor. As for flooring, pricing varies on what you choose. Personally I would go with a laminate with underlay on it, and put down cork underlay as well to keep the cold out.

Cheers.

Hi Tiffany

How old is the home as you say there may have been some movement of the slab( this only happens if you have a LOT of moisture or flooding ) Our guess is the floating floor is poor quality.I would also suggest Vinyl Plank flooring, as it is denser and more resistant to change .Engineered is good but not as good as this.

Your really interesting question is "How much to Level the concrete?" is a good one and can only be answered by removing what is there and checking the slab for cracks and then do a one week moisture test ( see google) for HOW TO. if it is really bad This could require removal and replacement approx. costs could exceed $50,000. Contact me for proper method and how this is done to your benefit.

Hello again Tiffany,

Depending on style of flooring you desire the flooring itself can range anywhere between $2.99 - $24.99 a square foot. Anyone attempting to quote on concrete floor repair should really see photos or personally inspect to answer as honestly as possible and I would certainly require that in order to properly quote entirety of project request

Cheers

That would be very costly. Hardwood + dricore subfloor alone will be about $3000 in materials. So I say $6k to $7k for the job
