Deck Repair

Is it possible to cover a solid wooden deck with tile, vinyl, stone or some other weather resistant flooring to extend it's life and make it relatively maintenance free? I want to extend my house onto the deck and make the deck easy to maintain.

In addition, I have two dogs that use the deck as their bathroom. I want it easy to clean with no spaces for excrement to fall through.

Hi Tricia,

If you are thinking about putting any type of tile(porcelean, ceramic etc..) down over the wooden deck, you would first need to apply a cement backer board to help level out the deck, eliminate the gaps in the deck and give the tiles something solid to be mounted on. You should make sure that the deck boards are also secured down as well.

Good Luck,
