Hi. I am trying to create a separate entrance to the basement. I have two alternatives. One is to use the existing kitchen door and create a staircase to the basement. Two is to create a side entrance from outside. I want to know how much would the designer/engineer charge to draw up the plans? And also, how much would it run me?

for permit drawings would be around $2500 however it seems to me that the idea to create a staircase through the basement door will be more convenient and more economic i believe.
Using house entrance will be way more cost effective. last outside one I quoted requires drainage, retaining walls, cut grade beam $27,000..another just redo a basement entrance was about $14,000 but it all depends on the house and access to basement. A designer is whoever you hire, some guys include the engineering and it can run too 2 grand others are half that, shop around and get it engineered as part of the design package to save money in long run. Don't expect this to be a $5,000 project though allow 3x that min.
Design/Engineering Fees:
The cost for an architect or designer to create plans for a basement entrance can vary widely based on location and complexity.
On average, you might expect to pay anywhere from $1,000 to $3,000 for basic plans.
If structural engineering is required, this could add an additional $500 to $2,000 to the cost.
Permit Costs:
Check with your local municipality for permit fees, which can range from a few hundred dollars to over a thousand, depending on your location and the type of project.
Construction Costs:
Creating a basement entrance using the existing kitchen door and stairs might cost less than creating a new side entrance, as it can be less labor-intensive.
On average, construction costs for a basement entrance can range from $5,000 to $15,000 or more, depending on factors like materials, labor, and site conditions.
Total Cost Estimate:
In total, you could be looking at a range of $6,000 to $18,000 or more, including design, permits, and construction, with the side entrance likely being on the higher end of this range.
Keep in mind that these are rough estimates, and the actual costs can vary based on factors such as your location, the complexity of the project, and the materials you choose. It's essential to get quotes from local professionals for a more accurate cost assessment.
