Hi, my name is George.
My question is - do I need a licenses to be a handyman in Montreal? Does it exist? Is there a school?
I do renovations and I keep getting so many different answers about working here. If I am renovating an old apartment, do I need cards to do the job?
I hope that I you can help me.
Thanks.
George, I don't know about Montreal but in general there should be a contractor's license. I would suggest that you contact City Hall for further information. If you are in Westmount call them. That is a good place to start. What a license does if say that you are allowed to operate a business in that area (city, county, province).
Hope this helps.
Ok here is the story. If you are working just for the apt building, you are allowed to do light repairs. Painting, ceramic, flooring, light electric, light plumbing ect. Where you need a licence is when you start your own company and serve the general public. Or if you are doing anything larger than light repairs.
Hope this helps.
Phil
So if I am just doing minor like tiles, and finishing work nobody can fine me or the owner of the building? That's good to know. I just wish to be able to have that info from the ccq but I guess they will never say that.
Thanks for the info guys!
