Insulating a 3 season sunroom

I have a 3 season sunroom that has window openings that are screened with plastic coverings inside. I am thinking about installing in each of the window cavaties an insert made up of frame with three layers of 10mm plastic with at least 1" air space in between each layer. Would this be something worthwhile to decrease the heat loss?

Dave, I would say no. the plastic will lessen wind and dust from moving in & out but will do little for the insulation factor. You might want to consider some inexpensive windows as they are not going to solve the problem (unless you go with higher end windows) but will by mush better than the plastic idea. Plastic is not an insulator.

Enjoy.

I understand your reply but when I look at the various options open to those who have green houses who wish to provide a measure of insulation, they have purchased "bubble wrap" that has large air pockets which they wrap around the inside of the greenhouse.

I am looking at doing something along those lines wherein I have five separate layers of air space similar to what you would see in a triple pane glass window. Would not that be somewhat similar to what I am proposing. Have a frame made up with five separate layers of 10mm plastic separated by 1" air space like a sandwich that gets placed in the window cavity. I know that it will cut down on the wind and dust but should it not provide some measure of insulation as well like the "bubble wrap"?
