Hi:

We have a 100+ year old house completely renovated 30 years ago. Would like to know the cost to repaint about (3000 sq feet = walls plus ceiling).

Thanks

Gary

Hello Gary,

The price may vary with many other things involved. Pricing per sq/ft adequate more when it's a new construction where the painting is straightforward, per example with no furnitures around, no floors installed, not much wall prepping to do, primed only, etc.

To give you an accurate and fair estimate the ideal is taking a look at the areas you want to get repainted.

I can easily give you an ball park if you can provide more details about your home as how many rooms you need to get done and approx sizes, but please keep in mind that the price may change after seeing the areas.

Have a good day

Hi Gary,

With many years painting behind me, I can tell you right off the bat, that you will need pro's to come in and see it. There will be much more prep time than actual painting. More of a restorative renovation than the new home job. With trims and all you could reach well over $7,000. on a home that large very easily, and more than a few weeks of time in all probability. Take it an area at a time, use high quality paints, and choose your artisans carefully! You'll be glad you did.

Good luck!

Am working with a pro who has quoted me $3.00 per sq foot includes paint etc.. Claims a lot of extra prep work as wood trim and doors are painted with oil based paints. Last job was $2.00 /sq ft so am concerned ... low ball to get the work etc.

Hi Gary.

For a rough estimate, which includes good quality paint...

Walls - you're looking at around $4500 in labor and anywhere Around $500 in paint (depending on color changes, brand etc)

($5000 with paint included is a decent price)

Ceilings although less sq/ft, probably will be in the same ballpark of $3000-$4500, with having to prep the space. also, spraying will use more paint - possibly between $1000-$1500 in paint for 2 coats.

Hi Gary,

I can easily give you an estimate if you can provide more details about your home as how many rooms you need to get done and, which colors recently ( would you like to change it OR keep it same ), is the ceiling (popcorn OR plain ), doors and trims, the house is furnished OR not ?........etc many things.

Thank you

Hi Gary,

As previously stated an older 30 yr home has about 80% prepwork and 20 Painting. Most likely you have a lot of plaster repairs to walls/ceilings .Also your trim and doors require a lot more work than painting new doors or trim.Especially as they have been painted with oil.Everything will require a coat of primer and minimum two coats of paint,

Again if somebody offers you 1 coater stop listening to them and walk away.

if anybody gives you a price per sqare foot on unseen job is just fishing for a call.

As a base budget price i would say you are running between 6000 to 9000 depending on how many colors deep/dark colors etc as dark colors cost more as cutting in takes longer and sometimes you have to apply additional coats.

Hope this helps you in choosing the right contractor.
