Hi, we tore down our 3/4 wall and this was the post attached to it. It goes all the way to the ceiling, but we are unsure if it is load bearing. As you can see in the photos the post is not centred. And only 1 of the 2x6 goes all the way to the ceiling. The post does not go all the way down to the basement. Thank you for your help!
In photo looks like a roof?..you do not use a post in a roof like that to hold up a roof. However it is unclear as to how roof is framed? Are there purlins?, is the post used as a amateur repair to prop up a bad section?, is it just to attach the electrical too?..best to open up that area and take a look. But my guess it has no load bearing properties at all.
Hi John,
There is an attic on top of the post. Yes, there are purlins in the attic. We believe it was built so they have an outlet/plug in the middle of the room.
Once we get up on the roof, what should we look for as a sign that it is load bearing?
Thank you.
