As per the title, I have found mold on the wall that was hidden by fibreglass insulation without a vapour barrier and then shelving that was fastened to the studs.
It's a storage area under the stairs that has one side foundation wall and one side exterior framed wall (walk out basement). The storage space is about 8 feet long by 4 wide and 5 tall and has been sealed off with a door. There is no outside vent and does not get heat from the rest of the basement.
From what I understand, the mold was probably caused over the years from lack of vapour barrier. There are no foundation leaks and we are generally very dry / low humidity (central Alberta)
Once I remove the mold from the cement wall, whats the best way to re-insulate it? Or do I leave it exposed to stud without insulation? I intend to keep it as a storage space and close it with a door, otherwise it's just an ugly doorway to storage area. I am worried about no air exchange with the rest of the basement so i'm not sure what is the best way to proceed.
Note: for removing the mold I have heavily sprayed it with CLR mold control and scrubbed the solution into the moldy wall foundation and as much as possible between the wall and studs. I am currently drying it out (dehumidifier) and then will continue scrubbing until I can see the grey wall again. There are definitely areas I cant reach under the studs so i'm hoping to paint the studs with Zinsser mold killing paint.
Let me know if i'm missing anything.
