I just bought a house built in 2011 with polyester kitchen cabinetry and, although I like it, the colour is wrong for me. It is 'wood' colour and I have always wanted a white kitchen.
So my question is, can these polyester kitchens be painted?
Thanks.
Hi Paula,
It is possible to paint the surface with the aid of a high adhesion primer. The problem though is that the polyester resin is so smooth or rather tightly knit that your primer will not have full adhesion to the surface and thus your finish will be susceptible to chipping.
I suspect that it would be more cost effective to reface the kitchen with new pre-finshed white doors and trim.

Hi Paula,
Mike has it right. The newly painted surface will not bind well to plastic and eventually it will get scratched up.
A waste of your money.
