We have hardwood floors that have been dinged up and scratched and were looking to see how much it would cost to have them refinished. The area is close to 700 sq ft.

We are just looking for a rough idea on how much it will cost.

The cost to sand your floors depends on a couple of things.

#1 basic sand and varnice (oil base) is aprox $1200. Basic sand and varnice (Water based) va aprox cost $1800.

If the floors need to be stained then you will have to add a $1 more per sqf.

About $3000 sanding and staining.

Hi Sabrina,

The costs to sand and re-finish your hardwood are reflected in the condition and type of hardwood, whether it needs staining or just urethane. I would however say the low end with sanding 2-3 passes and 2 coats of urethane is $1,300 and the high end with more prep work, 2-3 passes, some filler as needed, staining 2 coats and 2 coats or urethane would be $2,900.

I hope this helps.

Not sure where these other posters are getting their info but it's not correct. For a proper refinish with stain and a 2k finish it's just over $4000. I'm in this industry so I know the pricing. National average is approx $5/sq.
